I came across this while googling and have no idea if they are any good or not:

The thinking is to get an ME7.1 from another model and loading the RS6 binaries on. I think someone already mentioned that the standard binaries are available for download on nefarious.

It's a 7.1.1 on ours, not 7.1, I think.

And I have run my car on the binaries I linked to from nefmoto - it was perfectly fine, albeit I was running on the correct RS6 hardware. Gotta be worth a go.

In fact, you could download your own binaries from your current ECU, although that might necessitate putting it into boot mode.

Oh, with the right inclination, you don't need to use someone else to code up your ECU. Everything you need is possible between Vagcom, nefmoto, and some of the leads they refer to on nefmoto.

Running the ECU on the bench in boot mode to backup the original "locked down" tune. (You only need to do this once, BTW. You can upload new tunes with the damn thing in the car)

Sadly I don’t have that equipment otherwise i’d Attempt it.

Secondhand RS6 ECU on way for £225 inc postage. Then I’ll have to get someone out to program it

So, the plot thickens. New ECU fitted: same issue. It’s *got* to be a wiring fault now.

So if anyone wants an ECU cheap let me know, I have a spare

It’s with specialists now, after a ballache moving it (wrecked a barely worn tyre getting it on the trailer) and scratched the front alloys badly. (Trailer was exactly the same width as the RS) and it had to be dragged off.

I’m hoping in a couple of weeks we will be seeing it running properly without misfires on bank 2.

Btw: bank 2? Is that right or left as you face the car?? Just to clarify.

Nope, to be honest I’ve been so busy, so has the guy who is supposed to looking at it, that it’s just locked in his yard at the moment. February/March are my really busy period so I’ll deal with it when that’s over and I’ve financially recovered from Christmas etc. I’m in no immediate rush, and the bank balance doesn’t miss the fuel bill

Have a potential answer

Isn’t an electrical issue.
It’s a mechanical one: appears to be low compression on bank2. Looks like it’s slipped/jumped/stripes a tooth. However, we won’t know until it’s stripped down if any damage. The fact it isn’t showing any errors on bank 1 or crankshaft correlation leaves me marginally hopeful.

Weird that you were getting short to zero errors logged, though.

Still, compression is compression and that's gotta be sorted before anything else. When's the last time the timing kit was renewed?

What makes you think it's timing belt and not head gasket?
