RNS-D to RNS-E & RNS-E to RNS-D

Post by Siph3r » Wed Jun 20, 2018 8:57 pm

So, there is a million threads on the RNS-D to E upgrade, but i need to do it both ways..

My wife's 04 A6 has the RNS-E and my RS has the of course the RNS-D, and I would like that to change:)

Is it possible to just swap these as a 100% plug & play in both cars or will there be the same challenges? ( cut extra wires and connectors here and there)

I had a dream last night that this was a straight swap, so someone needs to wake me up :D

Thanks.

different connectors on those units
You would need some adapters to get them working. Possibly some wire chopping

I'm awake then...

I was hoping there was some connectors that could be unplugged from the A6 and just put straight into the RS.

So, then i'm keeping the RNS-D...

Thanks :)

Sounds like a fun job. Can't think of anything fundamentally difficult. Just annoyances like different GPS antenna plugs and TMC module. If you've got the wiring diagrams and are good with a soldering iron it should be fairly straightforward.

Think you might struggle to find an e to d adapter.

Easiest way would be to get a decent D to E conversion harness (not a cheap ebay one, proper ones are about £70). That will cover putting the E into your car. Then using that you could reverse engineer it to create a mirror of it to do the other conversion. You will need some connectors and wire etc... Plus there are one or two other things that need doing on the conversion with regard to canbus signals and ignition lives etc. And then its just a case of coding on VCDS. Shouldn't be a nightmare.

RNS-D is a backward step.... leave the E in the wife’s car and treat yourself to one too
