In the process of swapping to an 01e 6speed. Just looking for a bit of advice on certain parts of the swap.
Does the box come off with the turbos in place? Managed to get both the downpipes off and all the bellhousing bolts including the top two
but something is stopping the box from sliding off. torque convertor backing plate bolts are off , do i need to do something else with torque conv back plate?

Apparently that gearbox chap in London drops the box with engine in situ?

It's possible. When I went to 512 trans they told me that no one had told them that the box had to be removed with the engine so they just removed the box.

So there we have it, use the gearbox chap in London or 517 trans...

Have you undone the torque converter to drive plate bolts?

Yes, taken those bolts out , accessed from the starter hole,. Think gearbox is just being a bit awkward, gonna change angles slightly and see if its just a bit of weight holding the torque convertor into the end of the crank.

Is this all being done off stands or have you access to a ramp?

Most important, IIRC. Keep the TC on the box. The mistake I made the 1st time was as I pulled the box off, the TC came half off the gearbox too. TC must stay 100% home on the gearbox input shaft, then you don't need to remove turbos. (I think, it was a while ago)

On stands , but is over the pit. Engine is held on a brace bar. Gearbox being supported by a gearbox jack( tall jack with cradle) front subframe is off.

Looking at it I would have thought it’d be easier just to remove the engine and box complete, seen this done on someone’s driveway before with relative ease.

Possibly a stupid question but if the car is over a pit what is the jack standing on?

Bottom of the pit I’d guess
