ATF cooler pipe replacement.

Post by audi_driver79 » Sun May 20, 2018 8:43 am

Hi everyone. I've only just got round to having a look behind my undertray to see where the oil is leaking from. It's this pipe in the photo. I've searched and found a few posts with the same thing. Only thing I don't know is the part number or dimensions to get another made or is it just a standard pipe? I'm not a mechanic so any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

To me it looks like it's one of the pipes that was moved to replace the alternator the other month.

Have a looky at Matt's thread on oil cooler fixing . It covers all the sizes of stainless AN pipe and fittings needed to build your own I think . It's not a difficult job at all. They are still available from the stealers, but come with a hefty price tag attached

Typical, I only threw my old pipes away 3 weeks ago as they were in my way when getting the BBQ out. I'd kept them so others could get pattern pipes made up.
There are different pipes depending on what year your car is!

Also check your engine oil cooler pipes as there corrode too. I have this one for sale - viewtopic.php?f=64&t=119806&p=800593&hilit=Pipe#p800593

Thanks for that Chunky79 I may consider it but that pipe looks solid to me I think the pipe on the above photos is the one ending in B? My local garage got a price of £280 off TPS are you kidding me???? If anyone has dimensions I would like to get a pipe made up but I've seen it on other websites abroad for just over £100 which still seems steep.

4b3317816b?
Only thing is it says engine oil cooling (pipe 4) but I thought this was for the gearbox? Can anyone see from the above photos I posted or from previous experience with these pipes?

There should be a Sticker on the metal part of the pipe that has the part number on it. Best to make sure you get the correct one.
Think No4 is engine oil.

So I realised it was 4B3317816C and must be engine oil after all. Still be a rip off price from TPS though. Currently looking for one to copy or a better price for OEM.

Apologies for the delay. Unfortunately the spare one I have is the earlier variant 4B3317816B. I hastily bought it and then when I started to change my pipes I realised I got the wrong one.
Look at Matt V8's previous writ up on how to change the pipes. It is very good. I ordered all the hose and fittings from https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/torquesuk.
I used about 140cm of hose to replace the ATF hose and 60cm for the oil cooler one.

Thanks Steve. I'm due a big service on my car this autumn (cambelt etc) - I'll update the DIY with the other side hose as well then.
