“While you’re in there”

Post by 8520 » Tue May 08, 2018 11:57 pm

Hello all. Been looking for a good rs6 forum since rs6.com is dead, so here I am.

Bought an 03 rs6 and the history is a bit unknown to me so I wanted to check condition of the timing belt and track down what I thought was a noise on the serpentine belt. Turns out this car is quite a bit different than all of the other c5 chassis cars I’ve owned and I realized how much disassembly is required. Here’s where I’m at.

Since I’ve come this far I’m going to do the timing belt and water pump service, especially considering I haven’t tracked down my noise yet. All of the pulleys on the serpentine belt spin freely so I’m suspecting it is something on the timing belt loop.

“While I’m in there” what else should I be addressing? Aux radiators have been deleted but the coolant crossover pipe that goes through the core support is still there so I will be removing as much of that as possible. What else can I delete while in service position? Looking to simplify wiring and plumbing as much as possible for when I start the 6 speed swap in the future.

Thanks.

FON

Make sure you change all the pulleys and the serpentine belt (and pulleys) while you're in there.

Also, always to be done when doing the timing belt: thermostat and water pump.

There's a parts list in the DIY I did in the FAQ.

Probably your intercoolers are shot if they are OE. Check the condition of your combined oil / ATF cooler and the connections going to it. Might be worth replacing the oil pipes before they seize onto the cooler then start leaking.

FON ?

Sai I’ve deleted on past c5’s, but they tend to throw a cel once it’s removed. I assume the rs6 is the same?

I believe the car is 034 chipped, but I don’t know if their file removes the check for sai.

Yes I ordered a timing belt kit so it comes with everything on the timing belt route.

Car has Wagner’s already but checking then for oil would be a good idea.

Thanks for your input, I’ll check out the FAQ.

If you bought the OE timing belt kit it doesn't come with the tensioner, inexplicably.

I bought the kit from fcpeuro, and it does look complete.

Which kit did you get? I can't figure out why there are oil seals in some of them.

This is the kit I ordered, two of them. One for the rs6 and one for the Touareg.

Near Seattle, but out in the sticks.

That kit is so compressive I can almost imagine it.
