Even better if you can get hold of the seller and get him to set up a video camera pointed at the engine bay you may be able to catch them in the act.

Obviously that means the buyer will have to play along with them for a bit.

It baffles me why they chose such a small market to perform this scam? It’s an enthusiasts car meaning clubs and forums to share info and there are so few for sale it’s impossible for it to slip under the radar.
Let’s also be fair these cars don’t sell well, this scam would work wonders on the droves of old runabout BMW’s or fords etc.

Why would it baffle you? You can easily spend the asking price fixing the engine on this car if it had a serious issue. Its high mileage, expensive when it goes wrong and the owner would be aware of that. Seems like a perfect target to me.

I have done a thread in the 'Cars for sale' forum and have PM'd Phil to make it sticky.

I doubt it's an RS6 they are after - there aren't many high miles around in striking distance of Ilford. Their usual fare is BMW's and TBH I can't be bothered to look to see any likely targets - life's too short!

Still keeping eyes open to see if mine pops up somewhere!

And at least the C7 is safe - that would be my main concern - that car would be these guys wet dream - but I'm guessing the C7 was snug in the newly modified garage out of sight

As for this ‘incident’ - you have my sympathies. Karma- that has nice way of working its magic. Someday they’ll mess with the wrong seller.
