Steering angle sensor - replacement options

Post by Bishbosh » Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:50 am

The steering angle sensor has gone on my C5 RS6 Avant

Before I order an OE part from Audi does anyone know if the same part is used across the A6 range and I can therefore buy a cheaper pattern part by asking for something like an A6 Allroad version ?

Thanks!

Possibly, but you need to check that it's from a car with the same steering wheel configuration.

The parts catalogue will tell you if the parts are the same between models.

Do you mean part number 1J0959654BK? If so, looks pretty generic - allroad, TT, A4, a few VWs.

What are your symptoms? I fixed the SAS in my Volvo recently. The VAG one looks similar.

They are very basic inside and robust but sensitive to dirt ingress. Cleaned a pube out of mine and it's been fine since.

Did you work out how you got a pube in there?

It was one belonging to the DPO. How it got in there will forever remain a mystery. Thankfully.

The ABS and traction control lights are lit up on the dash.

The code reader has thrown up the SAS being the problem.

I don't have the part number or a copy of the parts catalogue. Audi won't provide a code for the part in case I use it to compare or Shop around.

Have a look in the FAQ, innit.

I ended up giving it to AVIT in Slough.

They tested the unit and it turned out not to be a connection issue and the readings showed it needs to be replaced.

Currently waiting to see if GSF can supply something cheaper than Audi OE.
