Need New Engine
Need New Engine
Hey Guys - anyone got a spare engine lying around ???
Mine died before I even put the Wagners on (might go on sale as will need money for repairs)
Looks like sudden Oil pressure loss - piston 3 bearings gave up and it's all gone loose - it now bangs the top of the head

Re: Need New Engine
That's a very big kick in the sweetbreads.
Any indication previous to the failure or just let go? How many miles/km?
There's a BCY in Doncaster http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINE-Audi-A ... SwUuRZv31I

Re: Need New Engine
Thanks for that. I'm just checking some guys back in Poland and see if I can get the engine rebuilt there cheaper.Weiß-sechs wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 2:06 pmThat's a very big kick in the sweetbreads.

It's on just over 112k (even DRC is still working on it) - there was absolutely no indication. It was pulling nicely. No hiccups no misfiring, always serviced properly and on time. And I was just going for job interview the red Oil Light came on the dash literally within a minute I pulled over to a petrol station and stopped - was too late already
Re: Need New Engine
How bizarre I was always under the impression the engines in these are bullet proof.
Not an oil cooler line etc split and dumped all your oil?
Be sure to replace the oil cooler too after any bearing failures as particles will be lodged deep in there.

Re: Need New Engine
My gay said the same thing - went through many of those engines(fixing /Servicing) and never seen a failure like that.
No oil loss as well. I'm thinking undocumented failure with previous owners and this one wasn't spotted and just grew and failed now.

Hope you get the job at least, you need some good news!!
Re: Need New Engine
Already know I didn't get it. got too stressed and foooked it up on some simple technical questions.Weiß-sechs wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 3:11 pmHope you get the job at least, you need some good news!!
Re: Need New Engine
Oil pump itself failed perhaps?
Re: Need New Engine
I've got the top end.
If you look through my posts on here you'll find one about the lower end of the engine block being damaged and lunching the shells, damaging the crank. The top end was unbolted and removed all the 'bits' on the outside (technical term), it's otherwise untouched. I ended up buying a bare engine from Germany instead. If any use to you let me know, already on a pallet.

Here's the original discussion from 2015 with pics of the discarded bottom end.

Re: Need New Engine
I actually passed on the idea of new/2nd hand engine.
Will be sending the car to Poland for stripping and rebuilding + some tweaking like porting the inlets and other bits
Much more cost effective.

Re: Need New Engine
That sounds like a good idea. Hopefully the damage isn't too extensive.
How you getting it there and do you know a specialist?

Re: Need New Engine
Yes - I know couple of guys getting cars on trailers back and forth. I just need to get it there ( will hopefully be driving it back through some German Autobahn ) - will cost about £300
