2004 Audi RS6 Plus C5 Avant - South Africa

Post by MeTsU » Mon Jan 22, 2018 9:05 pm

Hi Everyone,

I've lurked this forum and particularly this section for quite some time.

I am based in South Africa. I am currently in discussions with a dealership to purchase a 2004 Audi RS6 Plus C5 Avant.

I believe the original owner moved to South Africa and imported the car. From the vehicle history I got from Audi here, I can see it labels at REBUILT (I suspect it being the term for placing onto the system) in late December 2009. It's believed to be one of the only RS6+ C5's in South Africa.

I was hoping anyone could point me in the right direction - is there still a Registry going for this particular model? I found a thread with some info at a point. Or is there someone with access to a dealership that could run the VIN and give me some history on its first 28000miles. It's currently on 54450miles.

I would love to find out more about the car when it was still living in the UK.

Thanks very much.

Don't you have any history from before it was imported?

Hi Shoppinit,

Haha yeah. So I'm awaiting photos of the Service Book and a mate to go inspect the car physically for me, as I am in a different part of the Country.

Here's the For Sale ad - https://exclusiveassets.co.za/listings/ ... lus-avant/

I'm hoping to receive photos of the full Service book shortly. I reviewed and mapped out the information from the Service history I have on the South African Audi systems. I do know that although it apparently has a FSH, that this wasn't an always Agent visit - some of them were to Audi Specialists - lets see what comes about from the photos of the book.

So I'm waiting for the Offer to Purchase for this vehicle. Looks like I'm taking the plunge. I've been able to get the Dealer to drop the price a bit. I will likely put it on a car carrier to get it to me (currently 800km apart).

Thankfully, I don't need a daily driver. It's going to probably take me a few years to get this car back to its former glory (I generally take my time with things) so let's see how things pan out.

I'll try post some more info about it and plenty photos.

Cool. Looking forward to some RS6 pics in exotic places. Extra points for getting a lion in the frame.

Whilst thinking about this - I would like to replace the gearbox oil and filter (if all comes together and I purchase the RS). Problem I have is that checking with the Agents in South Africa won't work, seeing the VIN doesn't pick up as the correct vehicle.

Can one still get the incorrect filter even according to VIN? I contacted ZF directly in South Africa and asked for a quote on Gearbox oil and filter - was send the following (attached).

That's the part number for the A6/S6 4.2. It *might* be the same for the RS6 but I would want to double check with the catalogue.

Or give them the part number for the gearbox. They have OE gearbox part numbers in their catalogue.

/also you don't need 10 litres. That's the capacity from dry. You won't be able to get more than 7 litres in, probably.

Thanks for the info Shoppinit. I'll see if I can find out more. Will need to get the boxes details - can one get any of this info from VAG-COM? Otherwise I will just need to wait until I have the car and get it on stands (which I want to do in any case). I want to do an assessment of what parts I will need to focus on - work on a triage system of sorts.

I was planning to go the 10L route to do a bit of a flush first. I'm not sure if it has ever had this done.

Makes sense. Get a bit more then, and do it twice. That way you'll get 90% of the old oil out. Means you'll have to do a flush before dropping the sump and changing the filter, though, or you're gonna need 2 gaskets and they aren't cheap.

You might want to get some new sump magnets, too. And I recommend getting all new sump bolts. Although I'm guessing that the weather in SA is probably not as rust inducing as here.
