Steering rack help

Post by Doofuss » Mon Jan 22, 2018 3:34 am

Hi peeps,

Just wondering if anyone could help regarding a new steering rack for my 04 RS6.

Its on B/O at Audi and is very expensive from them anyway, and Euro car parts have two different versions listed:

https://www.eurocarparts.com/steering-r ... ring-mount

Didn’t know if anyone has had one previously from anywhere who could possibly advise?

I’ve looked on good old google and that, seems to be a lot of left had drive ones around, but only Euro car parts / car parts for less (same group) seem to have right hand drive ones, even 123spare parts and auto doc seem to only have left hand drive ones!

Any advice / help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks

Angus

FON

The part number for the rack for cross reference is 4B8422052C or 4B8422052CX. You could ask ECP if that's listed.

The Remy catalogue doesn't even list a RHD rack for the RS6.

The Hirsche catalogue is an animated gif of a cat.

It *appears* to be a ZF rack ref. 2881 701 but definitely double check that. Maybe call ZF.

Check your offside brake pipe for corrosion where it meets the flexi hose as well before you put it back in - that runs through the same chamber and I don't think there is a way to replace it with the rack in situ.

Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate it 🙂

Right, so, the part from Audi is that same number, 4B8422052CX, which is on back order at the factory, and which is also a stonking £1,073.04 plus vat from Audi! 😲😲

Euro car parts don’t do one, the one on their website doesn’t cross over to that number, and when spoke to them over the phone, they said those listed are not correct for my vehicle.

However, made some inquires and my local parts company leamoco, can source me one for just £350! # so I’m going with that 🙂

Thanks again for all your help guys, I know a bit about the parts side of things, as I was parts advisor for VW for several years and of course, it’s part of the same group and that.

Cool. You got a part number for that rack? Could be useful info for others.

Part number is as above ..# 4B8422052CX (That’s the Audi part number) Haven’t got a part number for the replacement Leamoco are sourcing for me,(I’ll try get it and update accordingly if I manage to get it) but it’s definitely for a ZF system which is what was fitted from factory.
