Waterpump

Post by Ajc » Sun Jan 21, 2018 6:55 pm

Who makes the OE pump for the c5 engine ?.
Is it worth getting it from anywhere other than the stealers ? .

No way I would risk getting a non OE waterpump. Too much stuff has to come off. Don't forget that if it fails within 24 months, they'll replace it, including labour.

The full whack price is about £120 IIRC.

If I *were* going to get a non OE part, I could get a Valeo Ref: 506794.

I think I'll stick with an OE replacement, the price even full whack isn't bad at all and not worth messing about with I don't think .

I'm having a hard time believing SKF's waterpump is less than equal to OE quality?

Valeo water pumps are OE for many manufacturers anyway...

I remember on the 20vts people Having issues with plastic water pumps failing as the impeller would disintegrate. They was a big moan about it as OE pumps were failing...

What ny local VAG specialist did point out was that if you looked at service schedule it pointed out new water pump every 4 years. And rightly so all water pump failures had exceeded the service recommendation... Never had one fail with 4 years...

Generally speaking, most owners/decent mechanics change the water pump at the same time as the cambelt, so hopefully they won't fail in the 4 years between belts

My cambelt is due soon aswel, (on age, not mileage) so also need to replace the water pump too. I went with stock last time, 5 years ago, from Audi.
It’s £100.49 plus vat now though (Part number if it helps anyone is: # 077121004PX)

So I’m also thinking of going for either one of these:

Or

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/valeo/1083854

I know that Valero is a manufacture Audi use, but the HEPU one has a metal impeller.
Both are about half price compared to stock from Audi, plus both are new units as opposed to exchange units aswel.

I’m swaying towards the HEPU this time around myself tbh.

I think for the sake of 50 quid I'd get it from the stealer. Metal impeller feels like a better proposition, though.

Yeah I’m still 50/50 . Not had a problem with my last one from Audi 5 years ago now, but then I’ve not done that many miles, about 30k roughly. I try to use genuine stock parts as much as possible. Just in this case, saw the metal impeller as opposed to plastic so thought might try that one.

In regards to cambelt, I'm thinking of going with this kit from SKF along with their water pump.

https://www.rexbo.eu/skf/timing-belt-ki ... 5&at=12637

https://www.rexbo.eu/skf/water-pump-vkp ... 1&at=12637

For a total of apx 350 Eur that sure beat the stealer here in Norway that are quoting apx 1000 GBP with discount

SKF used to make the best ball bearings for skateboards when I was a kid.. That gotta count for some serious good quality? Image

I'm a big fan of SKF. I've worked there and seen first hand their quality procedures. They are always my first choice for bearings.

Blimey, that’s expensive at your stealer!! 😮😮

Cambelt kit here, (UK) is £237.76 plus vat (part number if anyone wants it # 077198119A) plus the usual extras on top, vibration damper £134.28 plus the vat (part number # 077109479D) plus the alternator belt, water pump, thermostat / thermostat housing and temp sensor on top aswel!
