Spare Wheel
Spare Wheel
Does anyone have a spare wheel they'd like to sell?
Failing that, where is the best place to get one? Ebay?

Re: Spare Wheel
Not sure they come with a spare ? Mine has some sort of pump in the boot space ?

Re: Spare Wheel
To clarify: looking for a standard 19" wheel to use as a spare!

Re: Spare Wheel
Ah ! Ok, now I understand
Re: Spare Wheel
Same here so if anyone has a couple for sale we can split!
Re: Spare Wheel
Likewise I'd take a single spare wheel.
Last puncture cost me 4 hours of messing about and I got fleeced for the only (budget) tyre they stocked in the size I needed. I paid for it reluctantly but I do not want that again whilst driving around the continent for 3 weeks this year!

Re: Spare Wheel
I just took a spare tyre on my trip to Russia. OK, I'd still need to find a fitter but that was likely to be a lot easier than finding a suitable tyre.
Oh, and you can pack stuff inside it so it isn't gobbling up luggage space.

Re: Spare Wheel
Silly question now however as there’s no spare tyre did RS6s come with a tube of tyre weld etc?
Re: Spare Wheel
Yes. And a compressor. And a jack with plastic hinges that break when you lift the car. Ask me how I know.

Re: Spare Wheel
Ouch. Go on then let’s hear the story
Tbh I never really gave it much thought until now, so I need to invest in a spare alloy
Or a Jack, a 12v compressor and some tyre weld?
Re: Spare Wheel
You should have the jack, goo and compressor in your spare wheel well. If not then you might want to replace it. Get an allroad jack. They are the same size so they fit in the moulded polystyrene wheel well holder but they are stronger. At least, they were. That's what I bought to replace my failed one.
Not much to tell really. Got a puncture at the in-laws house. Nearest tyre was 60 miles away. Lifted the car, removed the wheel, then just as I was doing that I noticed the car moving out of the corner of my eye and I was able to jump back just in time. It landed on the disk. :-/ I might have a photo somewhere. The plastic knuckles they use as hinges just sheared. Pathetic design to save 2p of metal.

Re: Spare Wheel
Ouch - not seen that one before!
Re the Goo - yes it's supposed to have goo - personally I carry one of the compressed aftermarket ones (?Tyreweld or similar I think?). However in 95% of cases it's completely useless. Reason is that if the puncture occurs when you are moving the rim will cut trough the inner wall within one or two wheel revolutions leaving a gaping tear that no amount of goo will touch. I've had four punctures over the past 11 years and always with the same result.
I guess if you spot a slow puncture before moving off it might work for a few miles but I wouldn't want to trust it for long.
I simply keep the best tyre from each time I have them changed (about once a year in my case!) and have a stock so I have a replacement available if one goes.

Re: Spare Wheel
Good thinking, if I was off around Europe etc I’d prob sacrifice boot space to have a full size spare just in case
