KWE Intercoolers

Post by Richard J » Tue Dec 12, 2017 12:14 am

Just wondering if anyone has used KWE intercoolers or heard good feedback about them on a C5. I can't hear any leaks on mine but was going to remove them and JB weld them to make sure they are OK. I read a recent thread about recores but the KWEs seem similar money. Can't justify Wagner expense for no extra perfoformance. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... ID=EBAY-GB
Thanks, Richard.

Shame as we have a group buy on for the Wagners at the moment.

I did consider the KWEs too but after a quick google search come across someone from the states who had fitted them to a saloon and apparently the fitment was shocking requiring heavy modification to both car and coolers to fit.
He did however post up some useful data to suggest in hotter climates there was benefits to be had.

If they are a bad fit I won't bother. I've seen the group buy on the wagners, but to be honest they are over priced, offer no advantage over standard and the group discount is hardly worth it. I think I will get mine recored.
Thanks for the feedback on the KWEs, wondered why I hadn't heard of anyone using them.

i bought an intercooler "kit' from them on my A6 C6

Nothing, and i mean nothing fitted.
Came damaged due to poor packing, then the pipe work supplied wasn't even close, the silicone joiners were thin and of poor quality, the intercooler itself was great, well made, BUT, it didn't fit, had to adjust everything on the car, trim back everything, even down to the clips on the front parking sensors. they were shaved back.
even then it was more than snug to fit the front bumper

majorly disappointed

Airtec will do a nice modification/refurb to your originals for around £600.

The advantage over standard is the build quality and longevity. Also, if you are running big power then they will give you gains. They just don't give you gains on a standard or lady map.

They’re currently refurbishing mine so will be able to give an accurate description of build and performance once they arrive. They say it’s plug and play as they weld on new end plates where the shrouds screw in.

Can’t wait to fit them

It will be interestingly see how Airtec fit the new
Cores, inherently the OE core designs were poor as when fitted it allowed the dirt etc to sit in a trap which in due course rotted the cores. If you zoom in on the airtec pictures, the way they weld the cores in seems to eliminate the “trap” and thus protecting the core...

Lots of pictures and fitting review please

Personally I'm weak for carbon fibre and those Wagner shrouds make my trousers twitch

I'm sure the Wagners are great, but I'm not chasing big power the car is standard and although I may visit MRC for a remap at some point, I won't be after big power. The Airtec refurb sounds OK for £600 but how long does it take, their website says allow two weeks, sounds a long time to have my car in bits on stands with the bumper off. Has anyone used them and did it really take this long?

Mine have been completed, had an email today to say they are on a DPD delivery. They turned mine around in 9 days.

Once received I’ll load up plenty of pictures

Here are the rebuilt intercoolers. Build quality is superb. I’d happily recommended Airtec..

They look really good! Think I’ll send mine off in the new year when I pull the engine to do the turbos and a million other things at the same time!!

They look great, I'm definitely going the Airtec route rather than Wagners, makes more sense on a standard car. Do any of you Wagner guys fancy selling me your old standard intercoolers at a reasonable price so I can get them recored and then fit in a couple of hours. This would save me having the car in bits for two weeks.
Let me know if anyone's interested.
Thanks, Richard.

Thanks for all the replies to this as well, it's been very helpful and saved me wasting money on the KWE intercoolers.
