One thing is certain, the RNS-D doesn't know if you've got the parking brake on!

I have that exact unit I linked to installed on mine. Works fine at negating the need for parking brake wiring.

It's not the Pioneer I bought. I went for a Kenwood unit as it has more features that I wanted.

Unit itself works just fine, I can connect with bluetooth and stream Spotify over that, but what I cannot do is mirror my phone on the Unit. AKA... Android Auto. So I cannot use the Navigation and so on.

Apparently I can just take a screw out of the back of the unit and attach the brake wire to that, which grounds it out and allows it to work.

Your Pioneer unit may be different as I understand it needs a pulse signal. So it needs to see the handbrake on and then off and then on again before it will allow you to use it. This is the case with many pioneer systems which means you cannot simply have a permanent ground to bypass it.

I have to admit though, I am quite impressed with the audio from the standard speakers and sub. It's far better than I expected.

Fair enough. Yeah, the pulse signal is to work around the firmware update they did.

Am I correct in thinking that if you fit the pioneer SPH-DA120 you will lose the info display on the instrument cluster that says what station you are listening to etc :?:

I've not done it yet, but I plan to set up a remote using a micro joystick mounted on the spare panel just behind the "dial" on the centre console.
Wiring for the remote is is here - http://jvde.net/node/7
And I'll use up/down for volume, left right for next, previous track.
This is the joystick that I'll mount:

Just call me Rex! :D

No - but with a touch screen, you have to take your eyes off the road to check where you're putting your finger turn the volume up or down. So a tactile switch means you don't need to take your eyes off the road since you can do it by feel.

I realise this is an old thread.

Has anyone successfully upgraded an RNS-D to aftermarket and retained MFSW functionality? If so, what adapter did you use.

Thanks,
