If it just needs a clutch, why not replace the clutch? Obviously the car has much more serious issues that the seller isn't being open about.

He prob got the car cheap and then realised the running costs were big and prob got quoted close to 1k for a new clutch... :?

You are probably right there.

The price you can get these cars at now means that people can buy them but then don't have enough spare cash aside for the running costs.

I can only assume people see one at 9k and go 'sweet I can afford it' and think that the running costs would be that of a 9k car.
