Iv got underneath and listened while the car is running I can hear something round the middle of the front

The alternator sounds quiet as it's right at the bottom ....

I'm running out of ideas now I'll be done my an oil change tonight so will look for any boost leaks

Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope whilst the car is running .
Obviously don't probe any parts that are rotating but it'll be apparent if anything is making more noise than somthing else .
I suppose it's possible it's the water pump is it's in the centre or a tensioner or roller in the cam belt side .
Cheers Al

I don't think it'll be belt or pulley related because the noise is dependent on load. Or at least acceleration conditions.

I'm still saying ATF level / strainer, especially as the car is of unknown provenance.

Could be a diff bearing.

I have the same noise on mine, i recon its he power steering. Sounds exactly like a supercharger.
I have it on idle aswell as load. Been having it for 1000km, doesnt get better or worse so idk bout it. MOT said nothing about it.

I recently lost all my steering fluid from a hose leak while on the motoway. Drive it home , fixed the pipe and filled up, luckily my steering was fine bit my pump has got noisy, I presume I've damages my bearings. It's hasnt got any worse 1000 miles on. It sounds like the noise your describing. I've put an inline filter in the system to catch any dwarf and carp that will eventually do damage to other parts, putting a magnet on the end of the dip stick is always a good idea too. I'll do the power steering pump when I next get the cam belt done. my money's on steering pump.
