Vagcom scanning problem
When i first got my car i could do a scan with Vagcom with no problem.
As the years have gone by the amount of modules i can scan without getting a 'No response from controller' message has decreased to the point where i did a scan today and only managed engine, box and ABS!
I have tried both auto scan and selecting the individual control modules with the same results.
Any ideas? it's tres annoying.

Is it up to date?

Is it a genuine cable?
I can almost never connect to my hvac.
You can try tweaking the communication parameters, too. I had to do that once to get it to talk to a rs2.

Yes, up to date and yes, genuine cable.
I have tried with genuine and non-geniune with the same results - works perfectly on my wifes VW.
I assume tweaking comms parameters is easy to do?
I can't understand why it has got worse over time.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
Yeah, that is weird. I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it.
Maybe some deterioration in the wiring of the CAN network but you'd expect that to cause other problems, too. Having said that, if those modules can't communicate, how would you know?
In fact, thinking about it, the ECU, TCU and ABS communicate with each other in a CAN-hi network. The lesser modules CAN-lo. Might be worth checking the physical wiring of the can-lo bus.
Also sometimes a faulty module can bring down the whole network. I had that with a faulty TCM gateway once, a loooong time ago.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
Sounds feasible.
How do i go about checking the physical wiring and how do i track down a faulty module?

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
You might want to check for damp under the carpets first.
After that you'll need the wiring diagram and a lot of patience.
Are you on RNS-D? Might be worth disconnecting the TCM module as this can fail and it's fairly accessible.
After that it's a question of disconnecting the modules one by one to see if the others come back up.
Of course, it's probably worth tweaking the communications parameters a bit first.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
Thanks Shopp, looks like i will have to dedicate some time to this.
Car has RNS-E.
TCM is under carpet in drivers footwell?
I've had that out before to send to Viper for reprograming.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
No TCM in RNS-E cars. Unless yours was retrofit? You're thinking of the TCU for the gearbox. I'm thinking of the traffic module / can gateway for the rns-d.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
Can't say for sure if RNS-E was retrofit or not but i suspect not as car has alcantara/leather seats so was probaly specced with it.
Re: Vagcom scanning problem
It was never an option. They put them in the later cars when they ran out of RNS-D.

Okay Dokay, when i get some time i will have a go at sorting the problem.
Wish me luck - never a dull moment with these things!

Should be an interesting one. Keep us posted.

Re: Vagcom scanning problem
It could be the Bosch 5.7 ABS pump playing up, it'll start shitting the K-line & CAN-buses and soon you'll lose ABS + all diagnostics. Try removing the ABS pump connector, see if you can then find other modules.
