Stereo upgrade
Stereo upgrade
Hi, the RNS-D unit on my RS6 seems to have given up after the battery recently went flat - checked the fuse behind the dash and it's not that simple unfortunately.
The unit seems to be completely dead. I'm thinking of taking the opportunity to replace and upgrade the head unit, having trawled posts on the subject I haven't found any recent suggestions for alternatives?
I have the BOSE amp and speakers. Any ideas very welcome, maybe a 7'' screen (will that fit?) and the ability to play movies, either DVDs or electronic format, with a screen that would tilt away from me for the passenger to view?
You'll have guessed that I haven't much of a clue with electronics, my other car is an old Jag with a replacement 123 electronic distributor the only electronic thing in it!
Thanks,
Dom

Re: Stereo upgrade
I have a pioneer sph-da120 in mine. Love it, fits in very well. Minimal buttons, nice clean look.

Re: Stereo upgrade
Thanks Matt, does this unit need any mods, e.g. A plastic surround to fit neatly, or is it a straight fit?
Thanks for the reply

Re: Stereo upgrade
Yeh, when you remove the RNS-D you then need to install a double din facia in it's place that the new headunit slides into.

Re: Stereo upgrade
And alter the remote for the bose amp or it'll stay on all the time and flatten your battery

Re: Stereo upgrade
Hi, returning to a question I had two years ago, at the time the suggested alternative to my rnsd was the pioneer mentioned above. I’m finally getting around to upgrading (house took over!), is there a latest model/alternative available? Thanks all

Re: Stereo upgrade
The pioneer is old now.
I went for the Kenwood DMX7017DABS in mine. There is likely a replacement for this now also. Depends what you want to spend ?

Re: Stereo upgrade
I guess upto around £400 or so, ball park, which ‘surround’ did you use to fit flush with the dash aperture?
Re: Stereo upgrade
Yeah. Think there are a few more choices and versions available now that I'd look at if I was doing a new install, but I'm still happy with the sph-da120.

Re: Stereo upgrade
What are the latest models people are fitting that will not break the bank?... I’m still after a double din touch screen unit to replace my ancient RNS-d.
Re: Stereo upgrade
Yeah, looks nice enough, as do some of the newer pioneers.
Just make sure whatever you buy has a capacitive touch screen
