TCU for C5 RS6 Gearbox

Guys

I have a question on the TCU for the 2003 RS6.

Is the TCU unit a stock item for A6 models but with a specific program for the RS6?
or
Is the unit specifically made for the RS6 only?

If the former then where could I get the RS6 program mapped on to a second hand unit?
If the latter does anybody know of anyone that can test/repair the unit?
I'm guessing a new one from Audi would be in the zillions as usual.

Thanks in advance

Martin

I think the part number is 4B0 927 156 FB, but the last 2 digits might be different dependant on the age of the car.

According to the jim ellis website its listed against a variety of models (all 5 speed autos obviously) but for slightly different costs. They don't seem to be errrmmmm... cheap $1500  , but I read somewhere else you can get them for $500 instead.

You should be able to get one second hand though. I don't know if it needs to be coded to your car or not, obiously there are places like MRC who can change the eprom chips for enhanced performance but I don't know if this is dependant on a base setting linked to your car etc.

They are specific to the RS6. Also there is a US version for US spec RS6. Make sure you check the part number. You might find a second hand one on ebay.de.

Where I sourced mine from (accessible via the eBay UK website, see link below.) Paid €500 (£380) back in June 15 and had it fitted whilst the gearbox was being rebuilt, then had it mapped by MRC. All working fine to date :D

I was quoted around £1100 for a new one by my local Audi dealer. There would also be a minimum 7 day lead time as it had to come directly from Germany, assuming they had it in stock. Otherwise, who knows...

The seller also offered a refund if I wasn't happy with it as long as I paid p&p. Suffice to say I went the used route.

Thanks guys

Very helpful.

I did give MRC a call but they dont repair them.
They also suggested these people - BBA-Reman
http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/Inde ... category=2

I called them and they said they could repair for £195 +vat

So will give them a try, failing that i'll try the second hand route.

Thanks again.
Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Martin

Be wary of companies offering repairs to TCUs. I was initially going to have my old one repaired and contacted BBA amongst others but was advised by my gearbox repairer (and MRC) that dependent on what the issue is, the repair may not work i.e. ROM damage can't be reliably fixed. When you then request a refund, they'll claim they did fix the issue and that something else must have gone wrong plus it's a used item etc.
