high pressure switch ac

Post by rsmotors » Fri Jul 03, 2015 11:24 am

Has anyone replaced their ac high pressure switch near the drivers headlight, the ac stopped working so it went for a gas check , and it was full and the high pressure switch code was pulled , so any one done this , bumper off? or small hands, and can it be done without discharging the gas first?

Hi,

Yes I did this recently, fairly easy I managed it without removing the headlight. it's just next to the passenger side Headlight.

the switch has a Schrader valve, so no gas escapes as you remove the old one. Tightening the new one back up was a pain though due to limited access but all in all quite straight forward. Let me know if this doesn't make sense and I'll take some pictures to explain.

Cheers

Maybe the contacts are poor or the switch isn't screwed in right. Does the RS6 switch work in the allroad?

I recently went through fixing the Aircon on my RS6 so this is fresh in my mind.

If the econ light is on, and can't be switched off then the gas pressure is too low.

If the econ light switches off, listen for an rpm dip as the ac compressor comes on, behind the fuse panel you can see the relays, switching the econ button on and off you should hear the relay clicking.

If the econ light goes off, you should see the front fan (in the engine bay behind where the ac pressure switch is, but on the inside of the radiators.

All this being said, my econ light was going off, relay clicking, fan coming on but I had no cold air. I went to a local merit Tyre and had their £59 air con service. They said the pressure was too low and replaced all the gas. Now I have ice cold air :-)

Hope this helps.

IMVHO, always worth getting the "full" job that vacuums all the old gas out, checks for no major leaks and recharges with the "correct" amount - which IIRC is 550g of R234a, plus a bit of PAG oil.

Just had the air con serviced in 2 cars by a mobile guy. He was a real pro. All the proper gear and a sound understanding of the process. Definitely need to have the old gas pulled out, the moisture boiled off and have right weight of the new stuff put back in. Mmm. Frosty.

All the gas was pulled and then regassed , still not working, and high pressure switch code stored, [the rs switch one works in the allroad], so i am tracking the wiring back from the fans and switch,, does anyone have a schematic of the plug sunder the cover of the pas reservoir and what they do, so i can hard wire the fans to check their function.
Today i pulled the lower dash panel to check all the fuses , all ok , but which one is the ac relay[if it exists]
when i start the car econ is on, press the switch , i hear the revs rise, light goes out, then light comes back on again, then a code is stored? and the econ button stays illuminated,
is there a fan control module?

What's the code? Maybe your dryer is blocked.

Basically yes to all - suggest a copy of elsawin off ebay and you'll get the entire service manual including wiring diagrams.
