After Market SatNav/Radio Headunits

Hi guys

The RNS D has stop functioning - Just asks for the code and won't take the code when it is actually input.

I had read some posts about the getting a constant voltage to the Safe pin and the guys at Bromley Car Audio said that after testing the RNS-D did seem fine.
They mentioned maybe a problem with the K Line - whatever that is.

However The unit is old anyway so was thinking about upgrading to an after market double din satnav radio unit.

I seen a couple of post on the Apple Car play units from pioneer (SPH-DA120) but these don't have there own satnav - they just use the Iphone Maps, so not sure about those.

There are some more expensive Pioneer units or alternatively the Kenwoods DNX4150DAB looks quite good.

I also came across a German website with an interesting unit http://www.icar-tech.de/shop/index.php? ... uct_id=625

Does anyone have any experience with the icar-tech units or what other units can people recommend ?

Also is the K Line something specific to the Audi units - or will this be a problem for after market units too.

Thanks

Martin

I've got the Parrot Asteroid Smart in my B7 RS4 and have been pretty pleased with it

It's got SatNav built in but you can also use Waze

Comes with some good Apps too like Spotify and Internet radio. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good and I'm glad I got one

That icar thing looks like a China special.

K-Line problem? Sounds like code for "I don't know what's wrong with it". The RNS-D communicates with the car via the TMC module anyway, and it will work even if the TMC module is unplugged, just with an error message.

You sure you got the right code? Wasn't there a post about this fairly recently?

Considered that myself but when you actually see one installed it's "...eep!" and sticks out like Nicola Sturgeon's swastika tattoo. Not nice, the Pioneer is also SatNav ready where you need to buy another module for most of them. If the RNS-D works just get it recoded.

Thanks Guys.

How do I go about getting the RNS-D recoded? Its not something I would know about.

Is there somewhere you know of that could do that for me?

That Kenwood looks good. How do you find it and did you fit it yourself?

Most independent motor parts stores, the type with a lowered Honda outside ;) will be able to do that for you, a quick Googling in your area should provide rather pleasurable results. I do enjoy a quick Google...

Yes, that is essential. Presumably you are confident of having the correct code and know how to enter it?
If it's entered incorrectly you get a 1-hour timeout before you can re-enter and it must be powered on during that time for the clock to run down.
Maybe that timeout is what you've hit?

Told it was a simple job so ordered the "kit" online , apparently because of the Bose front and rear it needed "another " cable . Got it done whilst having billies put on.

Like the split screen sat nav iPod and pictures of junctions for sat nav directions . To be honest simply glad to be rid of the outdated rnsd
