Milltek Full system (decat) + access to F125 switch

Post by PoP-PoP-BANG » Wed Jun 03, 2015 1:02 pm

Hi All,

I've got a problem with my F125 on the gearbox, it causes the gearbox bar to go red when i start it up and put it into "R", only happens in R. The gearbox it self seems fine (completely serviced recently).

Fairly cheap part to change (by RS6 standards) but the garage that are looking at my car said that the bigger diamiter downpipes are obstructing access to change the switch. Has anyone else been in this position? If so, did you manage to change the switch?

Thanks,

Anil

I seem to have an issue with the same switch... I noticed in traffic the other day that the dash screen was flicking from P to N while the car was in N, today when I started the car she went into reverse with more of a bang than usual and the PRNDS bar on the dash is showing in reverse video with the bar all in red.

I have a long trip planned next week so was wondering does anyone know if the car will still drive without issues if the switch is faulty? I will take a test drive this evening but would appreciate any other info before the longer trip!

Check the fault codes for a mention of the F125. Then log the gear selector position sensor which can fail also. Less likely, though.

I wouldn't drive it until it's sorted.

There's a DIY for the F125 in the FAQ.

@Shopinnit I did see your guide cheers. As I am pushed for time and do not have a ramp I think I will send it to the garage to get it done though.

I checked fault code earlier and according to my basic reader (generic) there are no codes logged... Am I right thought that the F125 may not cause a fault code itself?

You won't get a generic reader to see that fault code. It's not an OBD2 code. It will be a VAG specific code (and not logged in the ECU anyway).

If you've had the flashing PNRS on then you'll definitely have a fault code logged in the TCU. Where are you based? Maybe someone local to you with a Vagcom.

Cheers, thought it was something like that. I know nothing about Vagcom yet! I think my local specialist will probably be the best bet, I am in Aberdeenshire...
