Water in Footwell
Water in Footwell
Guys
Any thoughts or help appreciated here.
I had water in the passenger front and rear footwells.
I had removed the drain plug that looks like a cats arse in the engine bay where the battery would go on a regular A6.
Water must have been getting in to pollen filter as the plug seemed clogged with debris.
So this was removed, rodded the drain hole and flushed with clean water.
Carpet pulled back and were dried (took ages)
The water still seemed to be getting in and seemed worse when the heater was on. - I thought maybe some water was still trapped somewhere and the fan may be blowing it around.
Care left to dry out thoroughly for a couple of week.
Water seemed to stop coming out into the floorplan. Had assumed that it had drained away.
Wrong !!
Just before I went to put the carpets back, I thought I would quickly give it a test and flush the drain whole again - I was very careful Not to let any water raise up and go in via the pollen filter and it didn't
However now the water is again dripping inside through the floorplan.
Any ideas please? What other plugs or drain holes could I check.
Picture below of where is seems to come in and also BT cloud link to more pics/video showing the same.
Thanks
Martin

Re: Water in Footwell
Could be A/C drain blocked.
Or leaky rear light cluster. Got any water in the spare wheel well?
Possibly sunroof drain.

Re: Water in Footwell
Do you have a Milltek Exhaust? if so the rubber flap where the air coin drain goes through the floor gets stuck due to the heat. Water then comes in to the car up the air con drain tube. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=102049&p=578771&hil ... ak#p578771

Thanks Gents.
No water in the rear light cluster and I haven't got a sunroof.
Haven't got a Miltek fitted.
However now that you mention fitting..I did have a recon gearbox put in about 6 months ago...I'm wondering if anything was disturbed when they put the box in?
That thread you attached seems very similar to my problem, so is very useful.
Let me explore that tomorrow
Thanks again.

Re: Water in Footwell
I had the exact same problem. AC drain blockage. It's worse on rainy days because of the increased moisture levels - which makes one think it's a leak.
Run the car on cold, fast AC with the carpet peeled back, you should see it overflowing from the grommet, at a surprising rate!
I had to strip everything back like you have in your photo, remove the funnel-type piece above the upper right grommet, get a brazing rod and jab it about until it found its way out of the bottom of vehicle. I blew some compressed air down the hole once unblocked for good measure. It has not re-occurred.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Audiacious.
Trying to borrow an air compressor before I tackle the job.
Will come back once done.

Re: Water in Footwell
The scuttle also drains through that pipe so every time it rains it is possibly backing up and coming into the car from the air con drain. This is what happened to me.
Re: Water in Footwell
I have a similar problem but on the drivers side (RHD UK Car) rather than the passenger side, the front is only 'mildly moist' but the rear footwell is soaking. Have been experiencing the steamy windows problem since the car was given a major service about a week ago, could anything such as the fitting of a new pollen filter disturbed any drains? Have checked spare wheel well, bone dry'ish and as this aircon drain / funnel seems to be the passenger side (yes?) looking for some advice please.
