RS6 High Milers

My car's just got to 141,000 miles on it's original engine, running sweet as a nut!
Still on DRC (think a few bits have been replaced by last owner), gearbox was replaced about 5k miles ago.

Are there many RS6's out there that are at or beyond this mileage? :)

Just over 133K, original engine & 'box (although the last diagnostic scan threw up the dreaded 17125 TC fault code so big bills coming my way :boohoo: )

Cylinder linings & pistons all looked A1 on inspection when changing the head gaskets

Good stuff,

Those bores and pistons look to be in great shape, that's reassuring. Do you think if you were able to get the TC changed now you could stop it from taking the rest of the box with it?

Not really a risk I'm willing to take tbh; been doing price comparisons of new TC versus complete recon 'box with 12 month warranty....not that much more for the peace of mind a complete recon gives. The labours the killer and of course that's pretty much the same for just new TC or 'box.

Where do you think you'll get it done?

Seen loads of high milers. The engine can handle it easily.

147k on mine
- original engine,
- box replaced at 60k miles by Audi,
- 4th DRC set,
- 1 steering pump,
- 1 engine oil cooler,
- 1 alternator,
- 1 alternator harness
- 2 times VC gaskets
- 1 time both front axles
- 1 rear crank shaft seal
- 1 driver front door lock
- 1 fan and control unit
- 1 brake switch
- 1 EGT kit
- 1 fuel tank + pump
- 2 x timing belt kits(i know it should've been 4 of them but Audi always did it every 90k km, before the first 90k km they did replace the water pump and T-stat because they failed, however the belt was done for the first time at 90k km, in fact the last timing belt was done at 144k miles, so that means that the first timing belt lasted 85k miles, it didn't look cracked or as if it was to snap at all when removed, now i have used a Gates one, however i wouldn't go as far :), it's pushing luck too much, but that is what Audi did...)
- plus lots of spark plugs, axle boots, miscellaneous seals, etc, etc....but those above would be the big players...and all has been done by Audi.

Why was that?

152K & going strong (I hope), gearbox replaced approx 70k (before I owned it) coil overs added, o/s exhaust down pipe replaced... IC's just been repaired by Unit 20, will be fitting them in a few weeks, once I decide which mobile ramp to purchase :)

One way return valves (I think there's 3) 1's at fault, but might as well replace them all, along with some silicon hoses for longevity... (Unit 20 confirmed the one under the inlet manifold is at fault' trust it to be the hardest one to get at) Loads of paper work prior to me owning it... So decent Audi history.. (Including the box change by them).. Runs fine currently.. Will run better once I've done IC's valves & oil lines.. Then I'll be taking it up to Unit 20 for a stage 1 & that's where it will stay, as I have now plans to change exhaust IC's etc..... Unless I get them free :) I tend to spec up my motorbike & leave the RS6 for driving the kids to & from footy ;) which is fast enough anyhow...

Impressive guys! I wander if i should put these all on the first post. If anything would inspire confidence in new buyers lol.

tmg, I wander how far your old car's gone now, I can't believe you got that far on the original box! Did you get it serviced regularly to manage that or it just lasted?

Jangol, a stage 1 on these cars seems a sensible point to stop. If i had money to burn then i might go a bit further but tbh it doesn't look like you can get a lot more from standard turbos and manifolds. Can unit 20 do the TCU software? It's worth doing if it's similar to MRC's software.

the fuel tank was leaking, it seems to be a common problem on RS6 C5 for which Audi made a recall in USA, maybe only saloon models were affected, however here it was not covered. The tank has 2 plastic nipples where it hangs on to the chassis and due to vibration they break/crack in time allowing fuel to leak if the tank is full, if kept under 2/3 is ok. They changed the whole assembly including the fuel pump and whatever else was there.

forgot to add the IC, very minor leak on one of them at 143k miles, i've replaced both of them with stock OEM ones and 2 hoses, also with OEM ones.
