Drove out to country pub for carvery and noticed this on front near side tyre . Don't want a blow out, no damage to tyre or alloy, just noticed the bulge which isn't apparent on any other tyre

Top toe is the key. As above that is a failed unrepairable tyre.
If there is no air being lost the my money is on one or more failed steel cables (that near the bead suggest could be that one and that holds the tyre to the rim)
Otherwise it could be the inner canvas failed and is pushing the outer rubber into a bulge.
Either way that is something to not drive on and certainly not motorway speed.

Nowhere seems to stock ps2s , is it worth /safe/compatible to get ps3s across the front (ao designation) and ps2s on rear(ro1 designation). My own thoughts would be avoid and keep all 4the same but didn't know whether there was that much of a difference between ps2 ro1 and ps3 ao to cause transmission wear

If I remember correctly the PS3's are not as good as PS2 - seem to recall they had worse wet performance than the PS2's in the wet. In which case if I had to have them, I'd be inclined to put them on the rear and keep the PS2's on the front.
I just Googled and it looks like Black Circles have the PS2's in stock - have you actually searched on line, or just rung local stockists??

I got my PS2s recently from Tyreleader. Great service. They have them in stock in the correct R01 fitment at £154 each. Sure I paid more than that.

196 x 2 fitted with black circles. Every other garage I approached including Audi say ps2s on back order so let's see if black circles can deliver as promised . Full refund or reschedule if not here on time.

Nope. Set of for Unit 20 from Glasgow; had battered deep pothole from the bad 2010 winter with nearside front. En route the car was vibrating and mayhem. Pulled off the road and had a right good look. Couldn't see anything. It was the carcass of the tyre bashed and bulging from the trauma of the pothole but all on the inner surface.
Immediately spotted by Martin and a 'get home' tyre for free to get home and get full replacements.
