It still hurts!

Just back from MRC and having cambelt plus 20K service done. Absolutely no problems, just all routine stuff at the end of 50K miles. However it still hurts when there is 8 hours labour and £1200 of parts!!
I'm posting this in the hope that some of the Newbies (or speculative buyers) realise just how expensive running these beasts is!!
Also had Doug tweak the gearbox map to better suit the characteristics of the 517 box - even better than it already was!!
OK, so time to begin on the next 50K miles!

What type of work/service cost that?

Don't worry - fully grown thanks!!
Work was a cambelt change and 20K service - so just routine, nothing special. And that's the point - this wasn't fixing something broken, just pure preventative maintenance that even the most lucky owner will have to fund.
As for big bills - well check my post history! Includes recovery after my car "drowned" in a flood, whole car basically written off six months later when the thrust bearings on the bottom end failed, rebuilding back to stage 2 spec in a new machine, followed by the first 517 box brought into this country with a myriad of those little things that cost a lot along the way!! So please don't lecture me on the bills I might get!
Oh, if my maths is right I've spent ~£8K on tyres alone, and about £35K on fuel in the course of ownership!
Such joys
Dave

Do you have a breakdown of the cost of the spare parts?

I wouldn't have thought there were any spare parts, MRC would have used them all.

What on earth was that for?

various things which needed both engine and box out, then a very indepth discussion with Grizz to cover everything that goes wrong - preventative maintenance - basically cover everything that typically requires engine out, box out or front end off. Turbos, head, intercoolers - miltek 3" DP, Miltek decat, stage 2 map, box map
wheels refurb, and respary, window tints front - list was several pages long,
2nd bill:
then replace all drive train, diff, props, suspension, brakes, bearings, you name it, calipers, braded pipes.
Another list several pages, Loba 390 brakes, C6 brakes
there was various respray working done as well.
In short - everything that most owners will typically experience at some stage or another
At Christmas had major breakdown....the famous oil cooler pipe ruptured! car bleed to death on the M1
2 years ago Grizz said this didn't need doing, should have gone with my instinct and insisted it was done anyway.
A very close call. For the sake of £150 + labour - not worth risking. Alternator ruined due to oil. £700 bill
First Bill I've had under £1k. I was over the moon...
Needless to say recent cam change belt change, oil flush, service, plugs etc cost plus few bits resulted in a bill of £1800. This was to fix a rattling from front end which sounded tappety for 30 secs on cold startup.
Rockers off to check Tensions etc - everything check out ok, was worried as result of recent break down. Engine flush several times to rule out sticking hydraulic lifters and change of oil to 5/40 instead of 0/30 (the other oil proposed by audi) and completely quiet now. Perfect again.

Just my opinion but having the head and turbos replaced "just coz the engine's out" seems slightly OTT. I don't know of many owners that have had to replace their turbos, unless they're over running them.
Just my opinion of course.

Blimey York - sounds like you are slowly replacing everything until the only original bit left will be the bodyshell!!
I wouldn't expect there to be any big bills left after that little lot was sorted!
