Small leak on radiator RS6

Post by nhojrs6 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 2:02 pm

Hi all, have recently had the car serviced and was told about a leak at the top of my radiator drivers side. I haven't had to top up the coolant so it must only be a small leak at the top.
When the the rad gets replaced will the condenser rad or oil cooler get damaged? Should I replace those parts as well or will they come apart ok? Can anyone tell me if I also need to buy oil cooler pipes?
I've priced up the parts from TPS and it's about £1200 for the three parts. On the other hand, the garage quoted £800 for just the radiator and coolant - £430 for the rad and coolant and 3.7 hours for labour. Will it be any more labour to replace the condensor and oil cooler at the same time?

I'm looking for a new rad too. Pressure tested mine and it has pinholes all over the place. Someone has used the dreaded RADWELD too. Pulled it last week, It's a fairly simple job to do and it and shouldn't damage any other parts. I just can't find a replacement part anywhere. Any suggestions welcome.

I posted some part numbers (Valeo and others) for much cheaper high quality options; Nothing complicated about fitting a RS6 radiator. Shouldn't cost you more than £300 in parts and a couple of hours labour.

Hi, thanks for your replies, got the car back last saturday, oil cooler pipe had to be replaced because it started to leak when it was refited.
I had a warranty in place and gave garage the details to follow! i had to contact the warranty company first and then the garage had to make contact and get a
authorisation number before starting the work.
The car was to be completed on the thursday evening when i went to collect the car , i was told that the warranty company wanted the garage to take photos
of the radiator,i was the told i would not get car back today,he had not sent photos as requested ,he said he would send in the morning.
I said i needed car back by lunch time tomorrow he said no problem.
Friday 10.30 he rang me and said oil cooler pipe will need to be replaced and that i would get car back on saturday lunch time at this point still no authorisation number and photos not sent, i was told monday morning .
Rang warranty company tuesday morning and said have you receieved photos they said that they chased garage on friday morning for photos he said he would send them ,this never happened i told warranty company i have the car back they then said claim is void no pay out.
Went back to garage told them there is no claim any more because they did not send photos, he said i will speak to them i said thats the end of claim and tha ti was not very happy as i mite of had half the bill paid for i then said that the he was to blame he then said he was to busy to send photos i then left.
Took legal advise and now sending the garage a letter for compansation giving 14 days to reply if not i will persue through small claims.

if so , there's one on Ebay that allegedly fits a c5 RS6 ( according to the 'compatibility checker').
seller is an audi dealer , item 151087806777 £80

Part number 4B3 121 251E or F depending on VIN number. There was a slight modification to the cooling system during production that means that later radiators have an extra nozzle on or something.

Thought 8D0 parts were for the B5. Doesn't necessarily mean it's not the same part, of course.

Don't forget to check for this difference in model years. Compare with yours before going to far into the dismantling.

New rad done, £216 from GT it's an identical part. It's an NRF as GSF were useless and said they couldn't get one from Valeo. I've used parts from them before and they always seemed alright. Thanks for the numbers though :biggrin3:

General traffic only did one rad. The numbers on the old one were worn off so just had to go off measurements.

Hi everybody, i took the garage to small claims court and got a judgment against him ,he then paid up.
I got half the money back as my warranty was 50% parts and labour, they could not get the oil cooler pipe to seal so had to have a new one.
