Dealer servicing

Went to AUDI dealer to get new brakes fitted and remember I'm based in Prague. Was surprised when dealer told me after fitting the brakes that the cost was substantially less than I expected. All in, discs and pads were charged at nearly cost price and labour was only €28 per hour. That's a main dealer now, not an independent specialist.
When I asked why the value, I was told it's simple economics - new car means less parts and everything done under warranty so hourly rate is high and that's where the dealer makes money. Any car over 7 years old needs parts and plenty of work hence they make modest money on the parts but plenty (usually) on big jobs needing loadsa hours.
Sounds reasonable to me although still not as cheap as DIY but gives peace of mind. Am I just lucky being based in Czech Republic or is this same everywhere else with other AUDI dealers? I'm guessing, from various forum posts, that this is unusual, right? Just wondering, if AUDi can do it here, they could do it everywhere else, right?
