Fogs as DRLs
Fogs as DRLs
I realise some won't agree with me, but I'm thinking of wiring my fog lights as DRL's - may subsequently switch bulbs to LED's to reduce power consumption (every little helps!!
I've found an article on how to rejig the wiring which seems very simple (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec43.shtml).
Anyone done this (or an alternative solution)??
I don't want any of the fancy "eyebrow LED strings or similar - much too chav!
Dave

Re: Fogs as DRLs
Why not just turn the side lights on?
You see all these cars driving along in crap weather with just the drls on, big problem is there are no lights on at the rear, biggest load of balls ever designed imo. Should do as Volvo do and just have side lights on all the time.

Re: Fogs as DRLs
Just a thought, but even with LED units in there, won't 99% of the population that don't know any better, think "there goes another tosspot driving around with his front fogs on for no reason"?
If you don't give a tinker's wotsit then that is fine but just thought I would mention it.

I only just read the article and my first thought was Christ, that is a proper ghetto bodge right there, looking at the pics. Points for figuring out though at least.

Re: Fogs as DRLs
Electrically it's an easy mod. I would use a relay and a separate switch, though. I don't even know how you put the fog lights on. I've never used them. Do you have to pull the knobby thing out? Or is that the rears?

Re: Fogs as DRLs
It controls both and takes a little getting used to. I used them so rarely (once a year if lucky) that I forget how at first

Re: Fogs as DRLs
OK - in no particular order
Midlife crisis - no, I'm way past that!!
Fogs are much brighter than sides
Fogs are put on by pulling lights switch out by one click, rears and fronts two clicks. However only come on with headlights
Don't give a toss about what other drivers think/say.
Why do it - because it actually makes it much easier to spot the car, especially in bright sun/deep shade - drove in Norway for 5 years where it was mandatory, and grew to appreciate the logic. Now mandatory on all new cars over here (since 2011) so the comments etc should get less with time
Agree the example photo's look like a real bodge job - no need for them to do so however!!
Dave

You could be right, I think I'm just bored though so have stopped coming on as much. Surely to feck it must wind you up a littleseeing the same questions being asked? This is the first one about fog lights to be fair.Mr Footlong wrote:Chunk, I swear your other half is putting drops of concentrated anger juice in your daily meals dude without your knowledge, you seem increasingly feisty in your elder/balder forum years.

Surely you want the rear of the car to be seen too? Just stick the headlights on, jobby done. I really don't understand the logic behind drl's.Daveperc wrote:OK - in no particular order

Re: Fogs as DRLs
Some of the LED side lights can be very bright. I've got some bonkers bright ones in mine. Might be good enough for you, Dave?

Re: Fogs as DRLs
Hi Shop
Would then need to rewire the side lights so they went off with ignition which would mean they were no use as parking lights
This mode looks simple enough even for me!!
