Bonnet Venting

Post by R8GXR » Mon Mar 11, 2013 8:28 pm

Spoke to Brendon Today who used to run Cool Louvers a few years back and getting my bonnet louvered this Friday. Historically I know this removes allot of heat so only the gearbox to worry about when we do Spa later this year.

Anyone interested in after pictures say so and il post up. Not going silly just a selection of 2, 3 and 4" louver slots. :D

Is he still down Alton way?

Assuming that you don't already know this, there is a manual Loon on here that was modified by QST (Can you say HOW MUCH!?!?!?) and that has been vented, fair few pics dotted around but I can't remember the name of the chap. Marmite-tastic bonnet to be honest.

If I only drove mine in good weather and she lived inside then I would seriously consider it but she doesn't so I wont be doing it.

Isn't it historically the brakes on track that overheat not the engines?

Can't see it making a massive difference to be honest. Everything is so packed in there airflow must be pretty restricted at speed and when stopped will let in loads of water into places that were probably ever intended to see water.

I would think the vents would help with heat soak but as we have discussed a year or so ago it could affect other cooling. If I was to vent the bonnet I would do what a couple of the b5 lads gave done and used scoop types with water catch pipes to send the water away from problem areas.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.

Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

I had my C5 RS6 bonnet done by Cool Louvers, a few years back and was a very affective way of keeping under bonnet temperatures down on the track, the only down side is the engine gets a bit grubby, but mine was always garaged so wasn't a problem for me.

I know all about the QST as was very good friends with Dave the original owner (Golly). Had vents put in my old SC Monaro and it transformed that so hopping the same here, the QST one worked well but they took allot of the bracing out so it was a bit flimsey! As for Location, he is now near Chichester.

Will post once done.

Hopefully it is just my eyes/the photo, but are the rear vent dead centre/totally symmetrical/oriented perfectly level? If not then that would be sleepless nights for me!

All perfectly symetrical, just a crappy camera phone, freezing cold and funny angle make it look like that.
