Hi All,
PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!
I have had an issue with the gearbox yesterday. The car struggles and revs to get into 2nd gear.
After running it through the laptop, error code 17116 originally appeared. After clearing it and running it again, the error code 17114 appears confirming 2nd gear ratio.
What is the best way forward? The car is located in Glasgow. Based on the symptoms outlined, is the gearbox totally gone.
I have spoken with two garages who have informed me that they want circa £3-4k to remove and recondition the gearbox.
Any help wuld be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Cpt

Other than low ATF, it sounds like your tranny is nice 'n' toasted. Call Grizz, get it flatbed it to Wirral.

Grizz could probably answer that. £3-£4 is doable but not sure of the quality, Grizz's pricing might be more but the quality can be assured.

Cpt, is your car standard?
Are you looking at keeping it for a long time?
If it is mapped and you are looking to keep it for a few more years then I would go with a modified box, otherwise just ask grizz for an OEM.

My gearbox expired at 72K Grizz did it for me, the difference is that the AMD option looks better as the box is warrantied for 3 years and the one Grizz fits is only warrantied for a year afaik unless he has changed the warranty period. Both options you will have to pay labour if the box goes again. If you get a gearbox from Audi you get 2 years parts and labour.

.....I havn't read the post thoroughly/recently ( it was clear the way it was headed ! ), but I believe someone was asking for some specs on the rebuild ( around mid-Dec ? ). No information was forthcoming and I believe this is still the case ??

Grim. Have you checked the ATF? Did this happen immediately or have you noticed problems growing over time?
You have a few options here, as there is Mackie Transmissions in Glasgow who are very well respected ZF builders.... I'd be checking the ATF level first, before anything though, as this is easy to do and free / cheap....
I'm in glasgow too if you want a hand with anything

They were asking specs for the uprated box which will be a lot more expensive but probably cheaper than sending it to the USA and less hassle if something goes wrong. Give them a try, you can be the guinea pig

Mine has just been refurbed by QST. Picking her up tomorrow so will let you know how she drives once I've done some miles. Grizz is much closer to you and has a very good reputation!
