Ive hunted high and low for info on this but cant find any solid answer.

im going to install an RNSE, but looking through this site, and others, im unsure if the newer ones from 2010+ will work or not?

Most were plug and play with the wiring loom connector but what year was that up until?

any advice appreciated.

thanks
Allan

They will work, but they won't get the speed info from the car's CAN bus ('cos it's not sending it) so the GPS will be lost in tunnels and will take a while to find itself when you first turn it on. Probably worth it though, for the extra speed and functions.

No, we've got a GALA wire, but the 2010+ units don't use GALA, they use speed information from the CAN network which the C5 doesn't send - at least not in a format it can use.

You have to make sure it's not coded for A3. I think A4 is the preferred choice for coding. I don't know what the features are. It's just generally better, I believe - faster processor, can read SDHC memory cards. Don't know if there's anything else.

Plus better screen, better looking 3D maps, 7 digit post code and the ability to add the Audi AMI which can control an iPod remotely.

No 7 digit postcodes! Same as the old one (4 digit).

Afraid so! You'd think they could manage it on the later version but they didn't for some strange reason.

So if I bought a brand new R8 today it would still only do 4 digits?

How can Audi think that's acceptable?

Yep.
Spent £130k on a R8 Plus and get a Sat Nav from 1972.

Luckily they chuck in a V10 5.2FSI revving to 8,700rpm for free to make up for it!

I think that's acceptable.

I guess you could use the 4 digits to get directions to the general area, then because you get there SO FAST you would have plenty of time spare to hunt round for the exact place where you're supposed to be.

Not to bad I guess :thumb:

Only having 4 digits didn't really bother me.

If you can read a map / road signs it's not really an issue. Having a general sense of direction helps too.
