A short post to show that it is possible to install a 12" subwoofer in the rear cubby hole :biggrin3:

How are you powering it? What wiring did you do? Have you got a low pass filter on it?

Drove it with a MTX amp, mounted under the rear parcel shelf. The amp had its own built in low pass filter. Have to say it was one of the easiest installs I have ever done.
Live feed (12+) taken from the battery in the boot so nice and handy. The remote turn on and signal wires taken from the Bose amp/ sub (right hand side cubbyhole), The signal to the Bose is low level (not amplified) so ideal to send to the MTX amp.
On a side note, if anyone wants the sub box they can have it all I ask is they cover the cost of postage. :bigwave:

Wasn't expecting you to turn up with a C6! I take it that you left the V10 steering wheel etc in when you sold or do you have other goodies available too?

Most of what you just said went way over my head

So you've pulled out the CD changer, amp and TV gubbins and replaced it with this sub?
What is in the other cubby hole now? Is the old BOSE sub redundant, or are you running both and get more bass?

Should I stop asking silly questions about something I don't understand ?

I do enjoy a decent quality home Hi-Fi (and spent 4 years worth of student loans many years ago, on building up a seperates system and decent speakers) so would appreciate a good quality sound system in my RS6.
I'm not trying to offend you... it's probably because I am totally un-educated when it comes to car hi-fi, but are big subs just for those who like listening to dance music and want a thumping bass beat, or would they improve the sound quality of other stuff (I mostly enjoy rock / guitar-based music).

I guess, the answer would be that a sub is only one part of upgrading the system, and that all other parts should be upgraded to match. Amps, door speakers and tweeters, head-unit and wiring.

What can I say Santa came early. Was sorry to see it go as it was perfect and only had 46k miles, spent a lot of money getting it perfect but real Rs owners keep their car right. Only two items left homemade sub box and a unused set of Audi rear pads.

You are 100% correct Tv tuner and cd player removed when the RNS-D was replaced with a RNS-E. The Bose was still in place and connected. By having the second sub I found I could turn down the bass on the head unit so all the other speakers didn't have to work as hard, which seemed to improve the over all sound. My normal music of choice is David Bowie so no drum and bass :beerchug:

I'd be tempted to keep the sub box for when you're selling the car.

The box looks too small for the sub. You'd have been better off with a 10" or 8" which would sound better than a 12 in an under sized box.

Oh cock, if someone tells me they've fitted an aftermarket exhaust I'm selling!

I think that for a homemade job it really isn't too bad. Yes, better results would have been had by paying an ICE company to make the box and provide a tuned sub but for non-audiophiles that probably balanced out fairly well. The only thing which was a bit of a shame imo was the fabric on the panel but it is stuck away where people won't really see it. You can get fairly well matched acoutic fabric for parcel shelves etc, used that maaaaany moons ago.
