My RS6 Write off!!!

Guys,
Advice please..
My beloved 2003 red RS6 was stolen after breaking in my house and nicking the keys.
The cops found it a day or so later and has had a hard impact on the O/S front wheel and pushed it back 3-4 inches.
Estimate for repair is in the region of £7500 and they want to write it off.
Question: Do I buy it back off them and repair or break it for parts.. this car was absolute mint, FULL Audi service history with new factory fitted gearbox, just a year ago and 70k on the clock and I am the second keeper and been with me 8 years.

Advice very welcome as I am absolutely gutted!!

I know it is a sad thing to say but the best money is in buying it back and breaking her.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

That sort of damage sounds tricky to repair properly, without leaving you with problems in the future... from uneven tyre wear through to dangerous handling from a twisted chassais.

If I were you, I'd regretably take the cash pay-out and replace the car, unless you have the space, cash, skills, time and patience to buy it back and make your money back by stripping it for parts.

Maybe one of the recommended garages on here might be interested in buying the whole thing off you? No idea but worth a call possibly?

Probably worth looking at your security if you plan on replacing the RS6 with another or something of a similar spec. You don't want to be targeted again. Then you start the debate about keeping car keys hidden in the house to stop them taking the car / leaving them in plain sight so they can grab them without ransacking the whole house to look for them.

Very sorry to hear this
The car sounds a really nice example and having owned it for so long, I can imagine making the right decision about repairing it or taking the cash wont be easy. Would it be possible to perhaps get a second opinion as to the extent of the damage and therefore repair costs ?
Should you decide to repair, because of the theft/damage that already exists, will the car be 'recorded' ? It might not be worth spending a fortune if this is the case ......
Good luck with getting it sorted

You also need to be a little bit careful when it comes to dismantling cars nowadays. New laws have come into place to deter unlicensed people from buying cars and dismantling them for profit. It is mainly around having a licensed premises and the correct disposal of fluids etc...

Whilst this is mainly for ebay like dismantlers who do this thing full time for a living (sometimes dodgy) under the rules your common petrol head COULD also be targetted - but unlikely. If, for instance you were buying a second car to take appart just to do up another car then flogging the rest you are also at risk.

Its a bit of a grey area but worth reading just in case

Sorry chap but 3-4 inches is a hell of a push back. I bought a 6 month old bright yellow 106GTI, paying almost full price as there was a waiting list at the time. Turned out that the N/S front wheel had sufffered the same thing as you, but only an inch back. No matter what I did and how much I bitched about it, it never got fixed properly so it sat there eating at me. I sold the car on to a trader as a part ex and took an absolute HAMMERING, losing 5k in just over a year if that!

I have never, ever been successful in buying cars back. I really wanted to with my Evo but the sods wouldn't let me. Have they said that they would? If so, what money are talking in compensation + the car? What are they looking at as "market value" is they write off and just pay out totally with no buyback??

Sorry to hear of the theft and damage .. IMO sounds like you had a soft spot for the car (as we all do).. to me that means you'll never feel right breaking it .. so take the insurance money and go look for a new one

However I bet it was ACE at going around right hand corners...

Amazingly, the handling seemed unnaffected. I fitted Racelogic adjustable Traction Control to it too!

If you buy it back and repair it you will always be thinking it's not quite as good as before, if you try and split ti you will be crying at every part that goes (plus there are a few at the moment)
I think i would take the money and probably look for a different car, will you find one as good as your old one??
Gutted for you.
