I fixed the transmission in one of my previous cars, an Audi S8.

It has the same design of gearbox as the C5 RS6 (and countless other vehicles).

I'll be doing my RS6 transmission next as it has the same issue.

What kind of rebuild kit did you use? Would you consider using an 'uprated' one and then chucking it on a tranny dyno?

I read this over on another forum a few days ago and it almost tempted me to have a go at doing my own. Almost

But then I realised I dont have a clue and wouldnt be as good as assembling it as I would be at taking it apart.

But credit given where credits due - that was quite the job you did. You made it look so easy!

This is a good thread. Where a guy actually took the gearbox out of his S8, stripped the gearbox and rebuilt it himself, no sending off for a refurb.

With the S8 trans, I just replaced what needed replacing to fix the trans. I wasn't looking to recondition it. All I did was literally all that it needed to function.

Again, I can't thank Chester Transmissions enough for supply the parts that I needed and taking the time give me some of their hard earned experience over the phone.

They won out eventually as I sold the transmission to a fellow S8 forum member and Chester Transmissions fitted it.

I am looking into which is the easiest way to pull the transmission and keep the car rolling so it won't be taking up space at work where they will need the ramps everyday.

I have already spoken to Chester Transmissions about a 'rebuild' kit and there is an upgrade kit which is around £300 ish. As I get into it, I'll post a new thread up showing removing the trans, fixing and refitting it as I did on the S8 forums.

There are many companies in the automotive trade who refuse to give out any information regarding working on the more specialised cars on the scene. Having been in the trade for many years, I can understand it but at the same time, I know how frustrating it can be working on a car and not being able to get the information to be able to do the job. I take the opposite approach on my vehicles. Everything that I do goes onto the net so that others can see what I did, how it was done and hopefully that will helps others who are in my position. It also helps to show the owners that aren't interested in working on their cars exactly what goes on at the dealers and specialist independents.

Hi Guys i've got the report for my TC which shows that the TC is totally dead. The reason was the bearing in the TC has broken. My question is, does the warranty cover this sort of breakdown. I'm just getting ready for them to say Oh Sorry!

Thanks

Sounds like the very definition of a mechanical failure to me. I can't see how they can say it's a consumable or an oil seal. Bearing is broke. Nicely black and white. Of course, you'll still have to fight them...
