Re: Time to break open the piggy bank again...
Rather good timing for a manual RS6 to come onto the market?

That's a bargain. It's probably about the price of converting one, but you get the car thrown in free.scottishv8owner wrote:Rather good timing for a manual RS6 to come onto the market?

Looks like a Kim Collins car, too. If I was in the market for one I'd snap his arm off.

With all this talk about box failure, I'm starting to get paranoid!
Box was serviced at Unit20 2 years (and about 10k miles ago) and now I am nearing 55k on the original box, would another service help prolong the life?

Hi Malcolm.
It was my C5 RS6 'box that was fixed at A1 premier in Bedfordshire - again Warranty Direct...
I did try to put my foot down that I wanted a new Audi 'box, and I even work at the Audi main dealer so tried as much professional level input that was not happy with a recon...
However the transporter came, collected car, I even photographed it going away on the flatbed I must have been so sceptical, and came back about 10 days later fixed and no other probs.
The way they explained it to me before I agreed to let this happen was that they obtained a complete reconditioning pack from ZF who are only 30 miles-ish up the road at Northhampton and essentially the gearbox casing was mine but all the friction internals were replaced...
Audi dealers don't publish this for the reason that Audi Germany tell them the 'box is a "sealed unit" so be fair to them (us) we are told to say that.
But apparently ZF can issue this kit. After all as per the BMW forum visit ZF do recon items...

No way of knowing for sure, but TBH the car has survived so far and it's been over 24 months now since the repair.
Sometimes I can make it slip when changing from 1st to second on WOT, but even on a recent trip to Unit20 Grizz seemed to indicate this was known and more of a TCU map issue with mapped cars...
And TBH I should not be subjecting it to WOT upchanges from 1st - 2nd!
We all know we'd prefer a completely new 'box however A1 Premier did exactly what they said they would do and I only paid the excess on the parts for the miles on my car as per the WD policy.

Thanks that's somewhat comforting... All being well that's all I should pay too. But 10 days though! I was kinda hoping picked up on Monday back by Friday! (It hasn't gone yet - it's still sitting in Stirling Audi awaiting collection)drybeer wrote:However the transporter came, collected car, I even photographed it going away on the flatbed I must have been so sceptical, and came back about 10 days later fixed and no other probs.

Re: Time to break open the piggy bank again...
that's very cheap for one with just 40k miles is it not?scottishv8owner wrote:Rather good timing for a manual RS6 to come onto the market?

Re: Time to break open the piggy bank again...
I'm surprised there's not more fuss being made about this by the warranty company - it's not my money - they've paid for the lion's share of this.MoRS6+ wrote:Are you telling me that Audi are charging you £2120 quid and the box is still exactly the same? You're joking right? Or am I reading that wrong?
Sorry, but they are taking the complete and utter PISS if that's the case.
As the ATF flush and refill and the replacement valve block didn't fix it they were unnecessary (and there will be more ATF to pay for after the box rebuild). Including the transporting, I must be up to a new box cost in the end?
Re: Time to break open the piggy bank again...
Speaking from (my poor) memory I'm pretty sure it was over a week but less than two.MalcolmSu wrote:Thanks that's somewhat comforting... All being well that's all I should pay too. Re: Time to break open the piggy bank again...
I wonder how they arrive at 568BHP. It only says full Milltek but standard ICs, I assume it has an MTM chip, any thoughts as to the other bits present in order to reach that lovely number? It's a shame it hasn't got the full MTM 'zoorst, that would sound gorgeous. Nice brake setup though. Want.
No matter where you go, there you are.
