OK, I've just spoken to Audi technical who have confirmed that all audis are 4 year except the RS6 and RS6+, which are 60k or 3 years as stated on a wonderful device called Audi Desktop (was that a bit of paper on the guys desk?)

I then rang Audi fixed price maintenance to confirm that if I had a 3 year service & maintenance plan that any work required on a time dependant basis, ie a 3 year cambelt change, would be covered in the monthly payment. They said yes! So I've booked my car in for its cambelt change on the 23rd March 2007 already!!!

In a way it is poor show from Audi 'cos the fixed price peeps work out their charges based on what they expect to pay out over a 3 year period. If audi then change the rules they lose out.

My God I'm being ripped off!!

So I posted a tipic already today on the 40K service and then found this thread.

I have my RS6 in at Leeds Audi today for 40k service when my mileage is 37.5k.

get this...In addition to the Cam belt change they say I need a new undertray as mine is cracked (this I can live with) they also said I need 3 new wipers (no big deal me thinks) then came the choker...£2,386 inclusive of VAT.

Needless to say I phoned John Fox Audi in Notts, they quoted 1500 for the cambelt and service.

Audi Leeds are getting back to me with their justification.

On another note my car suffered from brake judder about 3 months ago, apparently this was caused by warped front disc. Leeds Audi agreed to change the front discs and pads, so they should, as these were changed at the 28K service by the previous owner and they felt it was a fault in the disc, but now its doing the same thing. Not sure whats going on, and as I have 0 experience on anythin mechanical I have to trust what i'm told by the dealer.

What with the service cost and brakes its taking the edge of ownership :(

Layercake... I used John Fox, and if you look through this previous thread you should find it was cheaper than what you were quoted. Send me a pm if you like and I can give you more details / contacts.

Discs on the RS6 are a strange beast, there are links somewhere on here to a great brake web site (have a search around). I had a set of fronts warp and they were changed at a huuugggeely reduced rate. However, this last set have worn well and will be changed a week tomorrow.

Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but my RS6 plus is now over 4 years old, but only has 16k on the clock. Should I really get the cambelt done with such low mileage? Actually, I've just realised that technically, the cambelt should have been replaced before I bought the damn car (which I bought in March '08 )!! Don't think it has though.. feck.

unless someone corrects me, I think it should be changed given its 4 years as irrespective of mileage it will deteriorate (sp) over time and should be replaced. It would be a travesty if a 16k RS 6 + was to go bang !

Mine is a '54 plate with 28k miles, and it was the first thing I did. Painful as I'd rather spend the best part of £1k on other bits, but I have played safe and had the full service done.

Cambelt resurrected again

Post by jamesslater » Sun Jun 06, 2010 4:29 pm

Just got to 86k and relised that the cambelt needs changing, done at 44k last time. The book says every 40k, the previous posts seem to say 60k is now the required interval. Which is correct, dealer isnt sure! Now out of warrantyso I will use a specialist, if I can be sure it needs doing. Whats the view out there?

I thought it was 40k, too, but everything official points to 60k. Weird. I'd like to see this resolved once and for all.

I'd rather do it at 40k and have peace of mind rather than cringe for an additional 20k. Its expensive to do, but do you think the warranty company will pay out after an engine failure if they too think it should be done at 40k intervals? Its hard enough getting them to pay up when you've done everything right.
