The fact that it uses GPS is about the only similarity and just because it matches the 5 or 10Hz rating is not necessarily a device on an equal footing in accuracy terms.

There is more to it than a xxHz GPS engine.
For the intents and purposes of measuring acceleration timing, not really...or nothing particularly difficult anyway. Both will be limited by the amount of sattelites they can "see" for accuracy. Doing a lap of the Ring together a friend's vbox briefly dropped out in the exact same spot as my Qstarz by the way. (Bergwerk, apparently you're just in a hole behind a mountain there)

What I will say is that for timing from a dead stop racechrono isn't brilliant unless you want to average several runs. I don't know if vbox is better at that at, I imagine having an accelerometer would be helpful from a stop if it is used. But with a rolling start there is literally nothing in it. The only real-life test I can recall was an American lapping some local track and racechrono with 5 Hz data was within 0.05s off the track's timing system.
A guy I knew with a supercharged E46 always ran with a Vbox and the "result" of our little contests matched very much what we were seeing on our respective loggers.

If all you want to know is what your car will do in a straight line a Vbox has very little to offer over simple solutions like this. Update rates offer diminishing returns certainly over 10 Hz is going to mean little. The car performance from one run to the next will vary more than the measurement error.

A Vbox is a neat "all in one" solution but it's expensive for what it is. Claim whatever you want, for 50 quid this stuff does everything you need to time your car with excellent accuracy. There is no need for any proprietary black magic for something as simple as this.

I do this for a living, I don't want to have to do it in my own time.
To be fair he's sort of right anyway and I can't be bothered to waffle on with the explanation.

Thank god for that, I was getting flashbacks to those boring Trimble seminars already. I hate GPS. Well, not when it works obviously.
I think that's actually the fastest C5 with a slushbox I've seen on the internets.
