If you're going to buy a diesel, then it has to be a BMW. That way you'll still get some enjoyment from the handling unlike the 3.0 TDI A6 S Line I had the misfortune to spend the week in recently. I enjoyed my 320d M Sport Coupe that I ran alongside my plus more than I had any right to, with X Drive now available, the only area the Audi excels in is MMI vs IDrive IMO.

You're right about handling of the 3.0 TDI, I've got an Avant and it's very numb, you don't feel much of a feedback through the steering wheel. But I have to say the C5 RS6 wasn't much better. It felt almost equally numb comparing to the BMW 320d I'd had previously.
The 320d was great in corners,if I'd had it mapped it would've been fabulous car!
