Grief! I'll be going through this soon but there's no way I'll be using A1 Premier Transmissions.

Not to be unsympathetic but I guess Audi warranty is the way forward even though its about 2k?

IMO the OP is a little forced in this situation as he had a non-Audi warranty but still used an Audi service centre. I'm not so sure this would've been such a ball-ache if MRC or Grizz were used as intermediaries. Having Audi faff around with VB replacements etc instead of just agreeing that the 'box needs to come out and be rebuilt (by some who's done it before). It's interesting no one has taken ZF's reconditioned 'box program into consideration, I think it was only £2,400-£2,700 direct from ZF UK, ready to fit, factory rebuilt in German with all fluids.

Convenience of dropping car off at Audi, getting courtesy car plus a new box + other work is probably worth it, instead of getting the work done and then hoping the warranty company coughs up....

The zf sounds good but how much labour to remove + fit and then ship back & fourth

Does grizz not do a box swap for between 1.5k to 3k?

This is the route I will take if the time comes. I might have a go at fitting it myself. Been toying with the idea of buying some ramps anyway and I'd rather spend £2k on ramps than £4k in labour at Audi.

Sorry, but they are taking the complete and utter PISS if that's the case.
Not me, warranty company. That debate continues...

it was in my mind to use Unit 20 - car was due a service in 3.5k miles and would have been (still will) going there. However faffing around in getting the car down there, me back up, hiring a car for the time it was there seemed (then) the more troublesome option. Stirling Audi is just 10 miles from me and when i put it in I thought i'd covered all the bases - shortest time without car and with courtsey car. My warranty covers manufacturer labour rates. Hindsight's a wonderful thing though...

Mackies up here are the sole ZF agent in Scotland and earlier in this thread charged Iain Brown £5k to rebuild his box which I guess sounds a bit more than the £2.7k plus labour above?

i believe that is a renewal price. The last time I asked for a quote I'm sure it was around £2,700 and now I beleive they wouldn't touch me with my mileage (93k)

Today's update...

Well A1 Premier Transmissions called me at lunch time today. I spoke to Dave who did a pretty good job of 'selling' his company, outlining their facilities, what would happen and how many other RS6s they had done - includng someone on here recently!

Last night the warranty company said they would call to make arrangements to pick up the car, however he asked me to fax MOT and last service documents to the warranty company before they would pick up - said they (warranty company?) wanted to make sure everything was ok before dragging the car 400 miles down the M1. I thought all of that had been done as part of the first "repair" at Audi?

They're returning a car to Edinburgh on Monday so would want to collect mine then...

Get an Audi warranty.
Wait for 30 day exclusion.
Take to another dealer and claim for a busted box...
Quids in all round ;)
