Breakdown
Re: Breakdown
Demon Tweaks they have an absolute ton of fuel pumps. There's got to be something suitable.
Looked in the workshop manual and fuel pump delivery etc is missing for the V8. Just mentions the smaller V6 cars.

Re: Breakdown
Here is an interesting possibility:

New Pierburg pump with same characteristics as the OE pump. They have added the OE type connector to it. RScarparts.de is reputable.

Re: Breakdown
That is a really good find Ben.
The spec appears to be as good as the OE pump.
Just one end connector is offset where the original is straight.
Good price as well.
I have bought lots of parts from them in the past. But I got stung with courier costs and export and import costs.
I had to use a forwarding company in Germany.
I wonder if Deutsche Parts have dealings with them.

Re: Breakdown
For the hell of it I did another scan this morning.
This is what was showing.
Hopefully it’s connected to the “fuel pump” problem.
Re: Breakdown
Well, that’s your crank position sensor.

I second what Ben has said.Shoppinit wrote:Well, that’s your crank position sensor.
It’s too much of a coincidence for both to be faulty.

Re: Breakdown
Thank you both for your much appreciated help.
I suppose it’s a good job that LLL couldn’t supply a fuel pump.
Guess I need a part number (Bosch)
0 261 210 192
Bet it’s a bitch to install.
From what I have read it’s a common fault.
In stock at Autodoc.
That’s better than £670.00 ish. AA diagnosed an intermittent fuel pump fault. However I was just grateful that they got it started and got me home.
Would tapping the fuel pump fix a fault on the crank position sensor. ?

Re: Breakdown
Letting it cool and trying again would work though and did for me too. Could just be a massive coincidence.
If it does it again and hitting the fuel pump doesn't work pay attention to the rev counter while you're cranking it over. If the speed sensor is at fault the rev counter won't budge.
Audi say engine out to change the crank sensor. But I managed to do it with the engine in situ. Many people on here did also. It wasn't pleasant though.

Re: Breakdown
Hi everyone.
I guess I have a crank position sensor fault, and the fuel pump diagnosis was a pure coincidence.
What’s throwing me is the AA diagnosis.
When the car wouldn’t start I eventually phoned the AA for assistance.
Possibly 1 hour elapsed by the time the AA arrived.
After giving the AA guy a sequence of events he asked me to jump in the drivers seat and turn the ignition on, but don’t
Crank the engine over.
Knowing what I know now. I wish I had tried starting the car.
The AA guy laid on the road near the rear offside wheel arch.
He said he couldn’t hear the fuel pump running with the ignition in the on position.
He went to his van and came back with a hammer and tapped the external fuel pump.
Immediately tried to start the car and it fired up straight away.
It’s been ok since.
While he had the diagnostics plugged into the obd port.
I asked if there was any logged errors.
Nothing was the reply.
Then reading his report.
It said intermittent fuel pump problem.
So I guess the sensible way forward is to install a new crank position sensor.
Then see what happens.
Many thanks to you all for your thoughts and recommendations. It’s very much appreciated.

Re: Breakdown
Its certainly the cheaper part to replace.
Probably not.as easy to replace as the fuel pump mind!
Or just persevere till the problem arises again to allow a bit more diagnosis. Not ideal in your daily driver.
You have fault codes for crank sensor now though so it's pointing that way at the moment

For what is worth, a chinesium replacement for 4B0906087BF may be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Fuel-As ... B07GGPCVZ2. Cheap enough in case it doesn't work.
The original Siemens/VDO replacement appears to be available at Pelican Parts (USA): https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/ ... 087-BF-INT

Both of the parts you posted links for are the wrong product. Those are internal pumps and Steve required the external pump, but probably doesn’t even need that now

It's always useful to have alternatives just in case though!

Re: Breakdown
Asgor. Many thanks.
It’s nice to know that both original pumps are still available.
Thank you for your input from the USA.
I will be ordering the CPS today. Does anyone know for sure the original manufacturer. Or the best alternative.
I believe the original to be Bosch 0 261 210 192.
Currently available at Autodoc for £51.36
LLL reckon that it will take a few business days to get my refund. I see that this item has now been changed to unavailable on their website.
Ps. I now know what my Christmas list will be for this year.
And both presents are going to be expensive.
Somehow I will have to convince my better half that the pumps are for house repairs ?????
Pps the fuel pump control unit arrived this morning. Thankfully it was only £28.00.
