That is worrying. Looks like I picked the perfect time to buy then 'ey.

I'll contact Unit 20 when the cars ready and i'll let you know what they say. Failing that, i'll have to try elsewhere. I understand some garages don't want labour only because they add a % on the materials element also. But if the parts are genuine/equivalent I don't see the issue.

I've sourced a front wing now which is coming next week, Chris has kindly agreed to part with one of his headlights (huge thanks Chris ), ABS sensor ordered (light has come on, so hoping this may fix and it's not a module issue), then i'm left with the hopefully not so difficult items to obtain such as brake discs, tyres, cosmetic, service etc.

Yes it is worrying for the future. Makes all the money spent on the car over the years (in a effort to try and future proof the car) worthwhile.

If it is the control module it's easy enough to take off and get repaired. How sure are you it's a sensor problem.
Only because I thought I had a sensor issue which turned out to be a faulty module

I must have come across one of your posts suggesting it could be a module issue which is why I mentioned it. I thought as the car has had a nearside accident that it may have damaged the sensor. The part was cheap enough so I thought i'd give that a go first before I delve deeper. The only warning lights I have on the dash are the ABS & ESP.

Do you have a scan tool, either vag con lead or other?
Highly likely it's the cable as you say. Much cheaper too!

I did buy an OBD2 reader off Amazon with a view to reading basic codes and erasing them etc. but it didn't want to connect with the car. I'll have to invest in another one at some point. There's a local garage a stones throw away from me so when its mobile again I'll call in a favour and ask them to scan it for me. Fingers crossed it's just the cable.

Owning an RS6 without a Vagcom is like throwing darts backwards at a dartboard while standing on one foot. In the dark.

At the very least, get a dedicated VAG code reader. The generic ODB won't get you far at all. Something like this (although I have no idea if this one is any good):

The reader I bought is getting sent back as they are pretty good on returns. The one you sent looks alright actually and wasn't much more than the other I got. Might try swap it for that one. Thanks for the heads up.

I totally agree with Ben. Get a ‘genuine’ VCDS lead from RossTech. Anything else is just messing around.
If you can’t stretch to the genuine stuff, then you might also want to consider Carly

I've swapped this one for the Ancel unit to try. Long term I'll pick up the VCDS.

Yep I agree. Companies like Unit 20, MRC and Quattro Clinic are worth their weight in gold. However I was speaking with Martin ‘Grizz’ Adam’s just last week and he doesn’t offer a service for the C5’s anymore. His reasoning is that so many parts are NLA (no longer available). How strict he is with this I am not sure? Most respectable garages dislike using parts that the customer has brought (especially when they are not genuine). I have heard that Doug is taking a similar stance to both tuning and servicing. These garages have a good reputation and want to keep it so.
These are strange times and in the next few years we will see more and more RS6’s broken for spares due to lack of genuine or quality replacement parts. As an example; I know of 3 builds at the moment where bearing shells are an issue, just can’t find any…

I was speaking to Grizz last week and I mentioned this to him.
Apparently He is still looking after “old customers” C5,s but is reluctant to take on new customer's with C5,s.
Mainly due to the difficulty in obtaining parts for our cars.

Has anyone approached Cosworth about engine spares? They tickled the engine, I'm assuming they still have all the specifications of everything. Persuading them to make some rebuild kits for a reasonable price seems one way of dealing with this.
