Re: Car won’t start.
Check the temps with VCDS first. Then see how they evolve as the engine warms up.

Re: Car won’t start.
Hi Ric nice to hear from you mate.
Ok so car started on 2nd attempt. Went and drove it to give it a run/fill up with fuel.
Battery charge is at 13v with engine running. Usually sits at 14v.
Fans seem to be running a lot more than usual.
If fact they are constantly running.
Also after switching off the fans remain running for ages.
Time to check what the temps are with VCDS
Just hoping that all the cranking hasn’t damaged the starter/alternator.

Re: Car won’t start.
Checked out the Merle and Beru sensors o ring and clip.
All have the same part numbers with the seal part number being N903 168 02.
Audi say it’s N903 168 01.
Ordered sensor seal and clip from Audi which should arrive on Tuesday.

No thanks. I've still got the scars on my hand from the last one I did.

Re: Car won’t start.
Are they easy to locate. I presume rear of engine somewhere.
Not been able to see much on the sensor location on a 4.2 on the internet.

Click on each photo for instructions. Malcolm says the airbox doesn't need to come off. I'm slightly surprised at this, but gotta trust what he says.

Re: Car won’t start.
Cheers for that mate.
Will now go and give it a few squirts of wd40.
Is it ok to still use the car on short trips.
Or should it be mothballed until the new sensor is fitted.
I know that the fans will be on constantly.

Fuelling will be incorrect to a certain extent. You might flood it again. I personally wouldn't.I'm surprised it's not a stocked part at your Audi dealer.

Re: Car won’t start.
Yes me too. Whenever you want a part it appears that they have to order it. They are about a quarter of a mile down the road. But sooooooo expensive for labour.
Might go and connect VCDS and clear the logged fault and see what that does if anything.
Even with key position 1 (engine not running) the fans will be running.
