Depends on where you are going to and from unfortunately. There are still some areas which are useless for touring around. I have evolved rules such as generally choosing Ospray and Instavolt chargers as they're the most reliable. They are more expensive but still nowhere near the cost of 20mpg petrol. I avoid single charger locations as they can be busy or broken. Being able to charge at home is still essential at the moment though. It'd drive me mad always having to use public charging.

Now I've got a Tesla it's even easier. Supercharger network is spreading quite a lot so that makes it an absolute piece of pee to do most journeys. Most of the supercharger locations have lots of chargers and you just plug the car in and that's it. No faffing around even with a debit card. Never mind using some phone app. The early model S are just getting more affordable but you do need to be within an hour or so of a Tesla service centre to make it work I would think. They do mobile service a lot as well so it's so so easy. I visited a service centre yesterday and you just turn up and go into the waiting room as they know when the car is on site. They don't even need your key as they can unlock and start the car and sort it out. You even get to talk to the person that works on the car which you rarely get with main dealers at all.

Many thanks suz. I doubt I will be getting a ev anytime soon. As I just love to drive the 6.
Pleased the ev ownership isn’t as bad as the tv show made it look.
My nephew has just got his ev and had a home charger installed.
I think he is pleased with it but haven’t caught up with him yet for a chat. He uses his for to and from work which is mainly local travel.
I think I will be waiting quite a while before I possibly consider one.

Last week vpower £150.4 per litre.
Today £141.9.
At last it’s going in the right direction on the east coast.

Hi mark. I am the opposite. Using mine more and more these days.
Since retirement we are out in the Rs6 just about every day. Fuel bills have gone through the roof.
But hey that’s the cost of driving these cars. For me I just love driving the car and I now have the spare time to do just that.
Basically every day is a Sunday and thankfully the Rs6 is my only extravagance.

This Ethanol change isn't going to affect us in any way is it ? Heard talk on certain cars it will eat the rubber hoses ?
Myth:
https://www.efunda.com/designstandards/ ... SC=Ethanol

Absolutely no problem with Ethanol here. It does require a specific remap though.

Advantages:
- Price: 0.6€-0.8€ per liter here :D
- More power
- Less CO2 and NOX

Disadvantages:
- On aging cars, ethanol can act as a detergent and strip the tank of its impurities, which, ultimately, can clog the fuel filter. As such the filter need regular checks & changes
- 15-20% more fuel consumption
- Requires stronger fuel pumps
- Not available everywhere (2500 E85 gas stations in France - 1 out of 4, steadily increasing)
- Cost of remap

Extract from Wikipedia: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E85)
As more effort is put into maximizing an engine to take advantage of E85's higher "octane", engines achieve greater power advantages. One car that has higher power on ethanol is the Koenigsegg CCXR, which on ethanol is the fifth-most powerful production car, with 20% more hp on E85 than on gasoline. According to the manufacturer, this is due to the cooling properties of ethanol. E85 has an octane rating higher than that of regular gasoline's typical rating of 87, or premium gasoline's 91-93. This allows it to be used in higher-compression engines, which tend to produce more power per unit of displacement than their gasoline counterparts. Examples of octane mis-citation can be found at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association titled "E85 Facts"[4] which cites a range of 100-105, and a document at the Texas State Energy Conservation Office titled "Ethanol",[5] which cites a 113 rating.

Some vehicles can be converted to use E85 despite not being specifically built for it. Because of the lower heating value E85 has a cooler intake charge—which, coupled with its high stability level from its high octane rating—has also been used as a "power adder" in turbocharged performance vehicles. These modifications have not only resulted in lower GHG emissions, but typically resulted in 10-12% power and torque increase at the wheels. Where the engine was previously knock limited by gasoline, power improvements are as high as 40%.

Because of its low price (less than $2.00/gal in some places) and high availability in certain areas people have started to turn to using it in place of high-end racing fuels, which typically cost over $10.00/gal.

He's quoted an article that uses the US definition of octane. 89 is like our 95.

Price of vpower today 140.9 per litre.
Price is still going in the right direction.
Had to go to two service stations though. As the first had run out.

Yeah, 82, but you have to have balls of steel to let the gauge get down into the red.

Yeah Shop. I tend to fill mine when I get near a quarter of a tank.
I have a thing about blocking filters cos you have sucked up the crap at the bottom of the tank.

Ps. According to the Sticker on the forecourt pump E10 is 95 Ron.
