Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
For sure, there's a time & place for them.
On a hill, or undoing 200+ft lbs bolts with a big fkkn breaker bar isn't it.
But for general getting in & out, they're very handy. The moulded plastic ones are best, IMVHO.
I can't imagine pulling my motor out if I'd not had one - especially for all the propshaft, box & exhaust stuff.

I used a pallet and pallet truck to sit the engine/gearbox on last time but lifting the car up and down on the ramp makes life so much easier.

Launched the creeper board across the workshop and used my trusted piece of shed roof instead.

Thanks. I'm in Gloucester now. First step is to see if it'll move under it's own steam (hopefully not literally) and I'll go from there.Nobby wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:00 amI bought a creeper trolley about 6 months ago and have yet to use it. My driveway has a slight incline so I'd probably end up rolling into the middle of the road...
Where abouts are you based RS2? If your local to me and need a hand with the spanners I'd be up for popping over to lend a hand.
I'll have the car up on ramps and axle stands and lower it down so that a pallet truck (with pallet) can take the weight etc when it comes to that point. My drive is on a slope also so I'm not looking forward to that!MattV8 wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:12 amFor sure, there's a time & place for them.

I've ordered oil, a filter and some sealant. Then I need to reclaim my two sets of ramps from the two other projects sitting on the drive that currently don't work... hmmm

Oil and sealant has arrived... just waiting for the filter and some time to get to it now.

What's the sealant for?

Have you ever removed one after gluing it on?

Yes, nothing that Thinners and a scraper won't remove.

Ah, not mega glue like we use at work. You have to hammer and chizzel the sump off, destroying it in the process.

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
This weekend has been horrible mostly due to a bug that kept me in bed (apart from hugging the toilet lots!) but I managed to crawl out of bed on Monday and get the RS6 up in the air and have a look at the gearbox.
Oh, despite the photo looking like it's held up with the jack, the front is on 2x axle stands under the subframe and the back is there as a safety only.

Once up, I drain what was in the gearbox (sump plug was loose!) into a drain tray and measured it. 3 litres... stinking of friction material!
I dropped the sump (obviously someone has been here recently as some of the bolts have been replaced) and checked the filter.
There was another litre in the base of the sump but that only makes up 4 litres total in a gearbox that holds 9 litres. The underneath of the car is blathered with oil from the gearbox!
I also checked that there was no damage to the filter (cracks etc) and that the pickup pipe was the correct length which it was.
Looking at the date on the filter, someone has the same thoughts as me...

Interestingly, the magnets from the sump have disappeared...
So on with a new filter, sump and fill her up!
Well... after an hour (yes an hour) of pumping oil in and it coming straight back out and it only just reaching 35oC, I gave up.
I managed to get just over 4 litres into it and it wouldn't take any more. The pump is doing something as if you turn the engine off, it starts throwing it out but other than that... nothing doing.
Still no drive in forward or reverse gears so either there's a fundamental oil pressure issue or someone has run the box out of oil and burnt all of the clutch plates out.
I'm not sure that I have the energy or time to repair this one as I only want the engine.

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
I'd imagine there would be some sort of pressure control valve that could be blocked or failed fully closed? Hopefully part of the valve block and an easyish changeout?
The difficulty in reaching temp sounds like there is very little flow around the box.
Hopefully it's savable!

Re: Next RS6... this time in Black. Does anyone know BX**?
Sounds to me like the pump is borked, or has been damaged when the box was installed. It's easy to damage the pump drive tabs if it's not aligned correctly IIRC.
