Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
Re: Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
Very interesting place, behind the bumper. Well, to be honest, I've got no idea how to run the cable from it all the way to the glove box on my derv...
But thanks for the effort to upload that picture!

The RA has all the usual Camera Van spots in its database - of course sometimes they pick a new spot but not often.is there one that picks up the mobile speed cameras?
The "live site" feature isn't particularly useful IMHO. Actually notifying the system that the site is live involves several button pushes on the little handset. By the time I have found the handset, then figured out the button sequence I have either stopped (with plod coming over to ask me what I want), crashed into a tree, or driven too far past the scene for it to register!! I stopped bothering!

Is that how your last car ended up in the drink?Daveperc wrote:By the time I have found the handset, then figured out the button sequence I have either stopped (with plod coming over to ask me what I want), crashed into a tree, or driven too far past the scene for it to register!!
No matter where you go, there you are.

Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
Talking of speed camera vans, I didn't realise they worked at night. I just got caught doing 37 in a 30 - it was so dark on a badly lit street I didn't even see the van till I was on top of him.

Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
They have sent me a notice of intended prosecution. May just ignore it and pretend it never landed on my door mat

Dumfries and Galloway have a night vision one also. I had a particularly nasty month of waiting for the dreaded NIP through the door last January after I thought it might have nailed me doing well into 3 figures of leptons.Drummerman wrote:Talking of speed camera vans, I didn't realise they worked at night. Thank god it must not have had line-of-sight on me - but they do exist.
Now as far as I'm concerned - that's simply not cricket!

Back on the subject of cost of ownership, in the last 6 months I've done around 4k miles and spent just a shard over £4.5k. Still got gearbox service to do, map, possibly millteks and tyres in the next 6 months.

£11.5k
Costs include absolutely everything, service parts, tools for cambelt, undertray & fittings, x-carlink, 2012 nav disc, downpipes & fitting, rocker cover gaskets, ITG filters, new rear flange, cambelt parts, various switches, fuel, tax, insurance etc...
Nothing major but it all adds up very quickly. It had atleast £2k of work done on it when I bought it (front discs & pads, rear pads, service, rear wiper motor & stalk, rocker gasket, rear wing respray).

Itg filters, downpipes, xcarlink, are just extras.
Did you factor in the buying price that you would need service, cambelt, tax and under tray Chris?
I bought mine 2 years ago for £17k knowing it would need brakes soon. I was unlucky that the drc failed within a month but gave me the opportunity to go for coilovers. Only other faults have been cv boots (£30) and N75 valve (£50). I guess I was lucky that the guy had Audi warranty, sadly he sold it when it was up for renewal and the garage didn't keep it up. All my other costs have just been upgrades.

Re: Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
Factored in cambelt as I used it as a bargaining tool when purchasing. To be honest I expected to pay around £13k+ for one that was fully sorted as I had seen some that were £11k and were pretty snotty compared to mine.
Hadn't realised that the undertray was going to be £200 though either, thought I might be able to pick one up cheap off a breaker but there weren't that many about (and even bought one from a standard C5 which didn't have the vents - advertised as RS6 though
)

Re: Six months ownership - a warning to Newbies!!
Well i'm just over a year into ownership bought Sept 2011. Hunted for quite a while for a good one and didn't want to travel miles to collect. Paid £15k for a totally standard avant 49k on the clock in dark blue full Audi service plus Audi extended warranty which was worth having when the DRC started to fail.
After reading this thread had a look at bills to date.
Total so far Just over 5k however 3k of that is upgrades
Having come from the world of Mitsubishi Evo i'm used to the cost of keeping a car like this. When someone asks what does it do to the gallon ???? If you need to know that don't buy one.
The RS6 Avant is the total all round car loads of space for family. pets, runs to the tip then some fun on the open road still enjoy setting off the car alarms at work when i start it up
I really don't know what to get next in the same price bracket the C6 would be nice but still too much money and no other estate car can touch it
