Blimey, it's amazing how quickly you ladies get off topic!

I thought this thread was about keeping vs selling :D

Friend of mine just chopped in his RS6 for an AMG E63. I must admit I'm a bit perplexed about how enthusiastic he is about it compared to the RS6.

Considering having a look at Alpina D3 Tourings. Not into RWD but the slightly more exclusive nature of them compared to cooking BMWs appeals to me, and the car gets a great write up.

Take it easy mate, the consequences could have been horrendous.
As opposed to what? Doing 150? 140? 130? 120? On my own? Just with my wife? Crossing the road?

Do you know where or how? Or even me? Or how I drive?

I also wonder to what sort of problem you're refering to? Running out of petrol very quickly indeed? A tyre blow-up? Some dozy driver who decides to overtake at the last minute? A traffic jam ahead?

Methinks you do not know much about any of those things, and a number does not mean much on its own.

Inappropriate is the concept you should look for.
Off topic I know - and for that I apologise...

I'm sorry but that's horse****. Surely with the family on board that sort of speed is truly innappropriate?

You need to perhaps admit that at no time was there really any reliable control at 165mph, whether it was for a short blast or not. Control is an illusion as you cannot predict when a tyre could go, another motorist or animal get in your path etc. Any mechanical failure at that speed would be catastrophic in consequences. Could you live with the guilt if something went wrong?

If you're by yourself in the car I do admit and would consider that you would be of course only doing those speeds on your own in the car where you judged the conditions to be as safe as possible, but with the family on board?

Yeah - but the Alpina one is either single turbo remapped or Bi-turbo on the later (2007 I think) onwards cars. Plus the say the Alpina steering is valved better for feel, and the suspension and wheel set up pretty good.

I think also that it's a lot more exclusive than a normal Audi A4 or BMW TDi, and I do like having "the only one in town/area".

Something like:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2184104.htm

I drive an Audi TDi each as a company car, and the performance is adequate, although not going to set one's hair alight!
