Previous owner removed my sensors. Bought new ones £75/each (made by BERU). Have 2 fitted in the rears already but having front wheels refurbed today and the other 2 sensors fitted. Will let you know if they work when I get the wheels back. I have read that the system is auto-configuring and should recognise the sensors and not need any dealer intervention.

Hi Phil, I did put this in one of my previous replies:

"You can get them for £75 each + vat plus new valves if the existing valve needs replacing for £12 + vat.

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/option/tpm_sensors

RDE001 is the correct TPMS sensor
RDV001 is the correct Valve kit"

But, hold fire everyone! Let me make sure they work first / see if anything else is needed. Hopefully I will collect tonight and will post tomorrow sometime.

Just got an RS6 a couple of weeks ago & comes up with tyre pressure alert in the mornings, how do you turn warning off?
Must be the batteries going or the control unit as one morning it is only the rear left the next morning it's all 4!

I thought I had read somewhere on here that there possibly is a way with VAGCOM to find out the battery conditions???

I maybe wrong. Anyone know? I know the TPMS system is accessible on some VWs but it may only be newer cars.

By the handbrake, press menu, and turn the wheel to 'Set', then go to tyre pressures, then you get a tick beside 'On', and uncheck it.

I looked through the warranty paperwork briefly last night. The booklet is in plain english and states that various things are covered apart from a few 'obvious exceptions'. One of those exceptions is 'batteries'.

Now, if someone said to me your warranty doesn't cover batteries I would think of the big bulky thing that lives in the boot - not a surprise really. However, I wouldn't expect 'batteries' to include other batteries that are elsewhere, completely inaccessible to Joe public and are required to make a safety feature function properly.

It may be a weak argument, but one I'll stick in a letter to the Warranty company. If there are a few of us with Audi warranties, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few complaint letters off as they're more likely to sit up and listen that way.

As ever, I'll keep you posted.

G

PS - also sent nasty letter to audi dealer for waste of time - chances of getting any good will? I have a decent record at stake, managing a timing-belt change, £100 cash and 2 RS6 keyrings out of Hatfield Audi

Good luck GregR1 - I am going to try my luck with the dealer I bought it from and see what they say.

If nothing then a letter will be winging its way off to the warranty company

Grizz: is there a way with VAGCOM to check whether a particular sensor works? I tried but it said it couldnt communicate with the TPMS unit. Presumably its only a feture of newer cars?

Mine was in Stirling Audi last week for some other work and I asked them to check the TPMS - I had it turned off as it was intermittently giving me the "orange tyre with an exclamation mark in the centre and a stroke through it" symbol on the dash. They said my right rear sensor was faulty. Contacted Warranty Direct - they said not covered. SA said that'll be £170 please. :-(

Ah so there must be a way to check each one.

Anyway, I'll get my wheels back tomorrow so I'll pist whether the £75 ones work or not!!!! The website quoted an OEM part number but I havent seen one apart from the ones I bought so cant comment on whether it was the same or not.

Cool. Don't forget that you'll have to get the car to "learn" the new sensors. Not sure how that works. I have a vague recollection that you have to do something in the menu.

Well I'm hoping that you just tell it to store the pressures and the system recalibrates and learns the new sensors!!!!

Famous last words lol
