Dear Richard,
At present i am not asking any of the forum users who have responded to my request for personal information regarding their cars, but i will post a message to them asking if any have 'live' issues with their vehicles and see if they would like to give more details. I will show you some of the responses i have had so far though, as i feel you really should see the sort of thing we as owners are having to face, the list makes for interesting reading, especially due to the fact as far as Audi are concerned, there isn't any problem with the DRC system.

As i am sure you will agree, the RS4 (B7) list is truly shocking, bearing in mind the newness of these B7 models and the fact of initial cost of the vehicles. Lets looks at this realistically, most of the RS4 owners have covered less than 20000 miles!, Come now, surely you have to admit there is a problem with it!!!
I appreciate the RS6 is now 'getting on a bit' but when you consider this was a 70000 pound car new, then the fact some people have encountered these problems is horrifying, especially if you look at this owner in particular:
14. Bazza - 2003 RS6 Saloon, 36000, 20 shocks and 10 accumulators in 3 years and 7000 miles, In with audi at the moment
This matter has now got so bad that most 'aftermarket' warranty companies (such as Warranty Direct) will now not cover DRC failure as it costing them too much in claims. I also find it ironic that you offer a 5 year warranty on the new RS4 (B7) in regard to the DRC.
I do sincerely hope that Audi haven't taken a similar line to the one Ford took in the 80's regarding their pinto engines that blew up and caught fire, I'm not sure you are aware with the story, but Ford deemed the compensation payouts the cheaper option as opposed to a full recall, and it cost them dearly when that information was leaked.
All i would like for Audi to do is acknowledge there is a fundamental design issue with the DRC system and to rectify it asap. Its speaks volumes that the number 1 'aftermarket' addition to the majority of RS6 is too rip out the DRC and replace it with coilover set ups. This on average costs 2000 pounds, Im sure with audi's experience and access to materials would cost a lot less if you were to do this free of charge for any customer wishing to swap over from DRC to coilovers.
Lets get this problem sorted once and for all, for the sake of peoples safety and Audi's reputation.

Stuart Hurd
So as i said in the Email to Richard Starky, If anybody wishes to send personal details of any 'live' issues with their DRC, such as bazza who has a car in the dealers now, please feel free to email either direct to Richard: richard.starkey@audi.co.uk or to me and i can forward them onto him. Rest assured, any personal information sent to me will be kept in the strictest confidence, and will only be used to inform Audi of your problems, I fully understand if you don't want to share any information, but the more i can get the better our case will be with regard to this.

My personal email is: StuartHurd@gmail.com
Rest assured, any personal information sent to me will be kept in the strictest confidence, and will only be used to inform Audi of your problems, I fully understand if you don't want to share any information, but the more i can get the better our case will be with regard to this.
Stuart
Good job Stuart!
Mine has a live issue, but I am not sure if I want Audi to fix it again as I have no confidence in the system. If I had DRC replaced today, how long will it last? What has been modified/improved? What is the failure rate with the modified suspension?
An Audi tech drove my car at the weekend, he described the ride quality as "horrendous". He also mentioned a boot which would stop grit from getting near the seal, but... we've had at least one member (Cornishmoocher) who has had the boot fix only for it to fail within a short distance.
I don't want that, it's a waste of time.
What I would like is for Audi to make a goodwill payment towards the cost of aftermarket suspension. Call it compensation for all the time we've wasted at the dealers. Even after paying £1240 for an Audi warranty I'm facing having to pay £1400 for proper suspension because Audi can't make the DRC reliable.
The ideal solution for me would be:
Audi pays £1400 compensation and has no further commitment to the suspension on my car. Makes a customer very happy.
The alternative is:
Audi warranty pays £3000 to replace the DRC. Again. If Audi decide on this solution, then I would need a complete and technically detailed list of modifications made to the system and an assurance that it will handle like a dream and not deteriorate or fail within 50k miles.
Come on Audi, step up to the plate.

Hi Stuart, loved the letter. It should also be noted that many of us are comparatively new to RS6 ownership and these DRC issues have been around since the beginning. Most of the RS6 owners I knew in my early days of ownership are not around anymore hence any of their DRC issues will also not be listed or known by us.
In my case I have no idea how many repairs were done during the first 37,000 miles of it's use.
In my case I have no idea how many repairs were done during the first 37,000 miles of it's use.

Got my RS October of 2008, at the time of purchase the car dealer informed me that the rear shock was leaking (36,000 miles). The car was covered under an extended warranty from Audi (Issac Agnew Belfast). Left it in to Agnew’s for the repair which was done under warranty two days later it was brought in for the Irish version of an M.O.T (NCT) Almost failed the test due to an imbalance of the suspension system (as the tester said more then likely the shocks are weak). Luckily he passed it but was very disappointed to hear there is a problem with the suspension after only been in with a main Audi dealer. Now the worry is how long will the system last? Not main dealers in the south of Ireland have even seen a RS6 never mind worked on one!!!! Having spoke to the original owner of the car he informed me that the DRC system had to be replaced once while he owned it. So on this car it has been replaced twice in just under 39,000 miles.

Rupert, please do forward your personal story to Richard Starkey, and please do include the fact you are reluctant to go to Audi to have the problem fixed. I am of the opinion, from the stories i have heard so far, that alot of the problems encountered by owners is due largely to 'negligent' work carried out by Audi service centers. Also put your 'best case outcome' opinion to him, i cant see why the warranty company would refuse to be perfectly honest, pay 3000 to audi to have to fix it again in the near future, or pay 1400 to finalise the matter in your case!
I know i have said it before, but i shall say it again, 1 voice is rarely heard, but if we all shout they cant claim to not hear us! lets use this online community to its best, united we stand, divided we fall!!!! lol
Gorwanvfr, please add your details to the list, just put the information concerened with you, mileage and fault is all we need at this point!.
Mo, spot on, it is gathering momentum now, but we really need everybody to contribute, the list of RS4 owners with issues is putting us RS6 owners to shame!!, so common people, just tell us your story even if it is that you have no problems with your car and are totally happy with every aspect of Audi ownership!

drc failure
Hi Guy's
car has covered 34000 o3 plate,owned car 21mths
Had DRC repressured 3 times in 21mths, last time hit pot hole and pipe burst at shocker in November 2008. new pipe fitted by Audi Edinburgh Warranty Direct would not pay . Had Grizz fit timing belt at Christmas past he mentioned soft ride probably not pressured properly. Took back to Audi Edinburgh in early January they said no problems may need new tyres to solve problem. Since mid February not used car because can't get specailist to look at it before confronting Audi Edinburgh car is now undrivable. Hopefully will get it to Audi next week. Have tried to contact Audi Germany and Uk to resolve problems I had with this last year but with no help. They say that there is no problems and have had no feedback from Audi agents!!!!!!
seriously pee'd off RS6 owner
