Must say I am pleased unit 20 did mine.
Looks simple enough with full garage facilities. Must be a pain in the arse on axle stands crawling underneath.

I hate suspension work for this reason. Nothing difficult but everything heavy, dirty, seized and awkward.

Similar to one of these. But you need to get the right pitch.
Used it to great effect on my old coil overs
Once the threads are clean. Use heat on the nuts (as Ben suggested) to get the initial movement.

They are easy to use but if you have any problems then get in touch mate.
From the photo the threads certainly need a good clean up.

I personally wouldn't get a no-brand file. I'd probably get something like this:

Although, this coming from someone who has never used one. Just generally I have learned to avoid the cheapest tools.
Looks like the threads will clean up nicely though.
/Bit worrying that the eBay one says 0.75mm thread. IIRC there are no 0.75mm pitch threads. 0.8mm is the closest and would be for an M5 thread.

Point taken about the tool, I’ll go for the branded too.
Regarding the .75, my gauge does go to .75 on 55 degrees. I have no idea what that means, just stating what I can see.

Actually, there are fine threaded M6, M7, etc. at 0.75mm. I take it back. They are much less common though. I guess they assume that 0.75 will work for 0.8 and vice versa. And that's almost certainly the case!

And yes I would go for a branded file.
Like most things you get what you pay for.
Ps when using. Rotate the thread towards you as you file.
Don’t file a bit then rotate a bit then file a bit etc. You don’t want lots of flat spots in the thread.
And let the file do the work. Don’t use too much downward pressure. You are only cleaning the threads.

Now can you guys please explain how I’m meant to undo the 19mm nut in the top mount without it rotating the piston. Do I cut the top mount away so I can use a spanner on the nut and a key in the top or is there a magic socket I need to invest in?

Allen key to stop shaft rotating and pipe spanner to undo the nut.

I tried a spare socket clamped in a pair of mole grips with a key running through the top of the socket and the bloody thing won’t move.
